freenet vs i2p

So, getting reference i2p running was a pain in the ass.
Freenet was plug'n'play on my shit post box but, going by instinct , it seemed pozzed.
i2p seems like the renaissance man's dark web and the main draw was the torrent idealism,
whereas all the others sperg about "muh torrent congestion will kill da project".

Is my instinct wrong? Which is the least pozzed darkweb? Am I missing a third option?
I'm still exploring, enjoying that google-less web 1.0 feel but I would like to know, if kiwis think i2p is the wrong rabbit hole.

Heads up: Don't bother with reference i2p, i2pd is where it's at. C++ goodness. Small footprint, no bloat. Runs on my router as of now. i2p snark standalone is O.K.

Another one: How do I get qbittorrent to work? It doesn't seems to connect to my i2cp or sam socket, which one is it? Doc is sparse, since it's still "experimental", I guess.
Yes, I'm binding to the local loopback adapter.
piracy question solved:
Oh, about that one: Turns out that I unchecked "local peer connections".
And it's sam tcp, not udp.

My i2p setup for the lone wanderer:
i2pd
qbittorrent(sam)
waterfox(socks)
i2pd conf:
no http and i2cp services, only socks5 and sam.
you need i2cp for i2p-snark which is still somewhat faster than qbtorrent.
But it's inconvenient to cook your i2p standalone from source.
You can also dl a ready-made package from zzz.i2p iirc but don't bother, just use qb.
I ran floodfill and 2048 kb/s, both work fine.
Dl'd some postman torrents with ~400 kbit's. No issues, even behind isp level NAT.

So, encrypted, anonymous torrenting IS a thing and it IS happening in the year of our lord 2024. Neat.

no one is going to shill freenet because no one uses it.
Well, it still runs but it felt really dead. I didn't know what to look for and just dicked around a little, found no warez sites or anything of interest, while there's lots of hidden services who are serving both i2p and onion now. Freenet just mystified and intrigued me a little because, well, it still runs but for whom?

Enthusiasts of cheese pizza.
kinda thought as much. can't even say how something as abstract and bland as an overlaid, encrypted network can somehow give you a "vibe" to begin with but I guess that was the "vibe".

Btw, what's up with this project: https://lokinet.org/?
Is someone here in the know about what exactly is their angle?
Is it just random github project #425426 to pad a CV or do they actually try something cool and new with it?

Lokinet uses the Oxen network as its backend: https://oxen.io/
The Oxen network incentivizes participation in network infrastructure by rewarding those who host service nodes with cryptocurrency. The largest application that uses this network is Session, a messaging application marketed as a more anonymous alternative to Signal: https://getsession.org/
Session is created and maintained by OPTF, the same group that maintains Lokinet and the Oxen network. Make of that what you will.

Apparently you can use Lokinet as a substitute for a VPN for downloading clearnet torrents, by torrenting through one of Lokinet's exit nodes: https://www.scribd.com/document/773407261/TUTORIAL-How-to-download-torrents-using-Lokinet
