Fairfax County, Virginia — On Monday, September 16, at approximately 10:17 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 11800 block of Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston for a welfare check. FCPD received a request from a mental health professional to conduct a welfare check on 33-year-old "Sydney" Wilson, of Reston, who was reported to be in an agitated state. Police Officer First Class (PFC) Peter Liu knocked on Wilson’s door. Wilson opened it and immediately closed the door. The officer continued to try to speak with xir and after approximately two minutes, Wilson opened the door again. This time, Wilson was in possession of a knife and immediately begins slashing at the officer with a knife, striking him in the head. The officer was able to back away and attempted to de-escalate the situation with verbal commands. Wilson continued to approach with the knife and the officer discharged his weapon, striking xir three times in the upper body. Responding officers immediately rendered aid until Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department arrived. Wilson was taken to an area hospital where xe was pronounced deceased. The officer was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At first I was thinking this was some sort of hotel but it appears to be a brand-new apartment complex. Even Google Maps is confused at where it is but it appears to either the not-yet-built new development or the nearby "Aperture" apartment complex. Either way, how does someone like that afford a top-of-the-line apartment complex in an expensive part of Virginia?

I'm normally fairly critical of police using excessive force, but from that footage, that was more or less a textbook flawless demonstration of self defense.
Hell, as others have pointed out, he probably erred too far on the generous side, giving the troon many unjustified outs to escape without getting ventilated.
Suicide by cop is so fucking shitty. Even if this troon doesn't deserve it, I can imagine this cop is going to stress over this.
If you're going to off yourself, at least have the dignity to pull the trigger yourself.

In 2009, she thoughtfully accepted a full scholarship to Georgetown University, where she was a 4-year letter earner, a 2-year starter, a member of the 2012 NCAA Sweet 16 appearance team, and a co-captain in her senior season with the Hoyas of the Big East Conference. Sydney was a fierce competitor even though her outward demeanor has been described as “girly” and “fancy,” and she genuinely loved the game of basketball and all her teammates throughout the years, creating lifelong bonds.
Sydney was a member of the NAACP Georgetown University Chapter, a special guest speaker for the Hoops to Heels Student Athlete Program at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015, and a Young Women’s Leadership Panel Speaker for All-City Leadership Secondary School BK in 2018.
Following graduation in 2013, Sydney worked briefly for Capital Partners, LLC and Stone Street Capital, LLC before following her childhood dream by moving to New York City in December of 2015 and living in Harlem until October of 2020.
