Powerleveling -- if my family hadn't been on SNAP when I was a child, I wouldn't have been eating.

I cannot with conscious say that I support revamping or dismantling that program. I didn't go hungry as a child because of that program.

What foods should be SNAP-eligible is a matter of debate. What people decide to purchase using SNAP is a matter of individual choice.

Our family made the decision to eat as healthy as possible. I wouldn't have been eating fruits or vegetables as a child had this program not existed.

I think SNAP, like the foster system and Social Security, are things that have to exist. Can they be improved? Yeah.

Between that and free lunch at school, it kept me (and A LOT of others) from going hungry. SNAP is a great program, and I hope RFK jr reworks it some. If he wants to make america healthy again, that would be an amazing place to start. I know a lot of food lobbies benefit from it, and would probably push back extremely hard but I think it could be so much better. Hell, dump more money into it, but restrict the items a lot more. No reason in the world that you can use it for sodas, ultra processed foods, but raw food like meat, fish, milk, rice, beans, butter, and ham, bacon or sausage. So many easy fixes on that, adjust it as needed. Coffee, juice and tea should be fine as well. You'll help kids so fuckign much.

Obviously EBT must exist to protect children from undo hardship, but this would be better addressed with livable wages. Without prying into your situation, it sounds like your family was trying hard (and making good decisions about meals). Many many families on EBT are in a similar situation, people who work hard but struggle to afford food.

Hell, dump more money into it, but restrict the items a lot more.

This is more trouble than it's worth and creates an in for government intrusion. Many working people are beholden to the government via programs like EBT because the elites are allowed to engage in wage suppression via immigration, off-shoring, etc. These people are pinched hard enough.
