The Cole Smithey Thread

Most people don't engage the trolls. Most people aren't lolcows.
What I mean is, in the early days people got trolled and baited because back then trolling was still a sort of novel thing. Sometimes they’d tell the trolls to fuck off or leave them alone.
hell, never engaging the trolls is a newer concept in the internet.
cole never engaged the trolls, never acknowledged Chris chan or his mom, not even just to insult them. Never told the trolls to fuck off. He just ignored them From day one.
hell some people get trolled for a day or two before they block the trolls and go quiet.
most people can get trolled, even if you’re not a lolcowl the difference is a lolcow has no self awareness and will keep getting trolled nonstop like Chris chan. Other people get trolled, then they have enough and block

cole seems uniquely troll proof.

i imagine the way to troll Cole is to make fun of whatever local craft beer bar he goes to, maybe make a spectacle of his movie reviews.

It is kind of weird. We've seen Cole display similar ego/narcissistic behavior like Chris does. What's strange is that he's never tried to capitalize on it in any way. We can play psychology and try to figure it out.

Cole is a bit older than Chris. I don't know his life story, but by the time Chris, and the internet, were taking off Cole was in his 30's. By that point he had gotten married and been working as a film critic or whatever. He had a life and might not have understood what kind of impact Chris was having on this new internet thing.

Was Cole even really aware of what was happening? Have people made actual serious attempts to contact him without sounding like maniacs?

cole word filters anything related to chris chan on his youtube channel. we know this because there are zero chris chan comments but others do exist.
he restricts replies on twitter so his replies are restricted. also his brother fucking his mom trended on twitter as well and he basically went quiet after that.
cole likely very well knows about his brothers antics but he keeps it really low key.

there's also some evidence he might read the farms
he did a review of a movie and said something ultra pretentious. we commented about it on his thread and the next day he changed it.
that last one is just a theory, but its likely he keeps up somewhat with the chris chan sphere.

I wouldn't doubt it. It'd be a great way to keep up with family going-ons without having to interact with them.

The advice "Don't feed the trolls" dates back to Usenet, possibly predating Sir Tim's WorldWideWeb. I was introduced to it at the same time as the concept of trolling, around the late 90s or early '00s.

If anything, the retarded "anti-bullying" advice to tell people that they are hurting your feelings and exactly how to do so more effectively is newer.

Yeah, I think I saw 'don't feed the trolls' around the same time my EverQuest forum got Goatse'd. ;-) Such great times in the late 90s. The WWW was such delightful anarchy.

was cole smitheyw Vimeo hacked? This feels like some kind of troll video or something Chris chan would make, especially with the mom thing and cole seeming uncomfortable about it.
I can see this being one of those animated clips like you see in more popular podcasts. They have a full episode. Animate a funny clip that will then attract new viewers who wouldn't listen to hour+ podcast otherwise.

And Pokémon was being quickly forgotten in favor of better anime.

I don't know about your elementary, but there was a point in '99 you had better have a favorite DBZ character.

It's just an animated clip from a podcast, which is a thing people do for promotion. He must have felt it was a really hilarious bit which makes me realize that it's probably one of the most bland podcasts of all time. If that was a highlight imagine what the lowlights are like. I'm falling asleep thinking about it.

Hehe, my elementary was in '79 not '99, and you had better have had a full sticker book for trading. 'smellies' were the most popular by far especially rare ones. And if you had an Atari VCS or IntelliVision system at home, you were fucking rich or your parents really loved you.

Intellivision was the GOAT of '70s vidya systems. You could even get a keyboard for it.
There was no question it was superior hardware to the Atari VCS. The only thing that sucked was that shitty disc controller with the side buttons. The keypad however made games like Utopia or Space Spartans possible outside the far more expensive home computers of the time. Too bad the actual keyboard was rarer then a unicorn's horn.

His movie reviews are unironically bad. Cole does have his mother's ego at the very least with his deep desire to stand out as he demonstrated he will take the contrarian stance even if he doesnt actually mean it. All to stand out.

Besides, he called himself the "smartest critic on Earth" or something around those lines and the great late Roger Ebert legit mocked him for it. And Cole tried to start an online slap fight with him.

Dont be mistaken, Cole is as much of a liberal cur as Bob was a conservative one. He is a good mascot for the liberal Gen Xers who think they are better than everyone else because they took the reverse stance from their conservative parents.

Tho he doesnt fit the bill of a lolcow, just your modern liberal retard.

He was never a fan of Barb, if anything he had a lot of disdain for her but I can imagine even him felt some level of pity for her for getting violated by his "mentally limited" brother.

Not enough to visit her tho, that would be asking too much of him. Not that I blame him in that case.
