Stallmans autistic views on free software and open source are too convoluted for me to really understand, and I don't think I really agree with them fully. I have no idea how an honest software developer is supposed to make good money with his product if he would adhere to all of his rules, and I don't think a developer should have less control over his intellectual property as an author of a book. But Stallman is a popular figure, and his views especially endanger the goals of power hungry psychopaths, who can't forbid usage of software for violating the "code of conduct" when they use "Master-Slave" terminology, misgender someone or have voted for the wrong guy. So his reputation needs to be murdered for his ideals to be cast out as those of a "fascist" and a pharia. During the early days of the foss movement they were trying to take it globally and the Soviet Union was still kicking around so they interacted with Soviet officials and they outright said that it was worse than communism because it was so strict. FOSS is an ideal you shoot for, not a pragmatic one, the best case scenario is that you provide services around the product like Red Hat's support plans or hosting plans for groups like Nextcloud.

The idea is that the software is free, services that utilize the software are not necessarily free.

Open sourcing a piece of doesn't mean there isn't a learning curve about it. And to that end you would still hire an expert.

A developer doesn't necessarily have the capacities to offer services around his product, and software, if source-free, isn't that hard to decypher by a bunch of third-party developers, given enough time. Nowadays, Amazon would make the most money with your free software, and other Third-Party service providers would certainly make more than you would ever do, too.

What's the context here? I don't see a link to the post this comment is on. And yeah, this is pretty horrible, I think I've written about it before, but I don't like the idea of routine medical interventions that require significant skilled effort to remove. Sure, if someone's ill and needs treatment that's one thing, but here there was nothing wrong with the girl in the first place.

Stitches on skin can by removed by someone with steady hands with pretty minimal tools, and braces for teeth can be inactivated by cutting the wires, something that's not super hard to do, but how am I supposed to remove an IUD in an emergency situation with highly dubious sanitary conditions, assuming the former 14 year old even remembers about it?
