If he really was as innocent and justified as he says he was, he would have stood trial and shared a fate similar to Ellsberg. There would be no shortage of funds or top-tier lawyers for legal representation. Instead, as noted above, Snowden fled justice because there was no excusing or explaining what he did. So much for Snowden believing in the ideals he professes.

The only real arguments against this are "fuck the government" (which is fair enough in my opinion) or "no government should ever spy on its citizens," which is like saying "no nigger should ever try shooting at cops to get away from a traffic ticket." It's not wrong, but you're naive if you think that's how the world works.

Had Snowden stayed and faced a public trial, things might have played out very differently and the government may have been forced to face some sort of accountability. That's what Ellsberg did. Since that's not what happened, we will never know.
