TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

An yet, he claims Doug startes the whole "Hahhaa..He-Man is gay guyz!!!"

80s gays viewed He-man as a well-documented icon and even winked act with characters like Fisto. Which pretty much kills the narrative of the Aurelina/Furry Found Footage and the furry fandom that Doug Walker invented He-man gay jokes.

Honesttly, when it comes to the furry fandom from what I saw, everyone whos like from the 90s and 2000s knows He-Man is a gay icon from the 80s. Only people dont know..is well thid joker and people who cannot bother to read wikipedia (sooo...think people who JUST joined the furry fandom and research is fo suckers)

Doug occasionally thinks he's more influential than he really is.

I still remember when he did the "Double Team" review with Jean Claude Van-Damme and Dennis Rodman at the end they're saved from the explosion by a Coke machine and he got all excited about this saying, "this is going to be the next big thing" and called it "Frying the Coke".

Was he serious? Just playing? Who knows. But like a lot of people online Doug lives in a bubble and that tends to mess with your understanding of the world.

I don't think it's him assuming that he's influential, but just thinking the "Frying the coke" would turn into the next meme. Memes often emerge by chance, and it's a rare occurrence for deliberately created memes to gain traction. Take the "A CHUCK=A NORRIS!!" meme, for instance; it's evident that it was crafted with the intention of becoming a viral sensation. In contrast, the Bat Credit Card originated as a lighthearted joke but gained traction as a meme over time.

TV Tropes tried to astroturf everything he said and it was So. Fucking. ANNOYING.

To be fair the Chuck Norris meme is just Doug capitalizing on the already existing Chuck Norris memes at the time, while "Frying the Coke" was him openly trying to force a meme.

Honestly, has a forced meme ever succeeded? TBH, I could do without that.
In a related story, Wrestlecrap.com tried to force a meme regarding Batista and basketballs based on his laughable promo against The Great Khali. It caused a riff so bad the site became separated, into Freakin Awesome Network and The Craphole.

Doug Walker is better at reviewing newer movies than Red Letter Media. The last few RLM feels like Mike having a midlife crisis.
All in all Doug isn't bad when it comes to doing reviews. It's the Nostalgia Critic and the need for skits that makes his show unwatchable at times.

And even then I would rather watch Doug screech autistically at a movie than have to listen to Lewis riff a comic book by looking at the camera and smirking as if to say. "I'm so clever". Yes Doug does get up his own ass at times but in the end the NC is just a character whereas Linkara is Lewis' ideal self.

I'm sure some of them have but all memes tend to have a very short lifespan. It's like, "hey this is funny" and a week later it's now old and kids have moved on.

RLM was basically killed by covid allowing them to not go to the theaters, Jay reading Twitter way too much, and by becoming too successful and having to watch what they say more.

One thing I will give Doug credit for having watched some of his more recent NC videos is that he finally wised up and got rid of the overly long sketches. He is also now putting out videos that aren't overly long and are instead clocking in at a modest runtime.

Hollow man is a movie I know about, but never saw.
Saw it in the film store all the time when I was a kid. Glad to see that I did not miss anything of worth.
