Special k not healthy or low sugar. Let’s do some basic research:
1 cup (dry) =
140 cal
11g sugar
34g carbs
3/4 cup milk =
Skim:
62 cal
9.5g sugar
9g carbs
1%:
82 cal
10g sugar
10g carbs
2%:
98 cal
10g sugar
9.5g carbs
Whole:
119 cal
10g sugar
9.5 carbs
She mentions staying under 6 tsps of sugar for the whole day.
6 tsp of sugar = about 25g sugar.
In the BEST case scenario, where she is eating a serving size of her cereal (1 cup/39g), with 3/4ths cup of SKIM milk, these would be the results:
Calories: 202
Sugar: 20.5g
Carbs: 43g
So she is already nearly at the sugar limit from this, not to mention already over including the 2 tsp (8.5g) that she has in the coffee.
Now let’s calculate her LIKELY portion of cereal. Now national research has shown that the average cereal eater eats about 80g of cereal in 1 bowl (double the meter serving suggestion). We know Chantal is “trying” to eat less so lets just say she is eating 2x the average amount in a bowl (as opposed to her usually 4x amount.
Chin’s more realistic cereal portion, 4 cups of cereal with 3 cups of whole milk (2x national average cereal portion) :
Calories: 1010
Sugar: 80g
Carbs: 172
Remember she’s trying to stay under 25g of sugar a day now.
This is oust one part of one meal in her day and she’s already more than 3x over her sugar limit.
Bonus:
People like Chins, with zero knowledge about nutrition, is exactly the target audience for “healthy versions of food. For example:

the left is the nutrition for frootloops cereal, special k red berries on the right.
Both are for 39g of cereal
There’s hardly any difference in calories, sugar, or carbs.
Also the special k actually has more sodium than the front loops.
