Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

This is probably a smart move if they want an unforked linux kernel to stay in government use, but good grief:
"I'm also not going to start discussing legal issues with random internet people who I seriously suspect are paid actors and/or have been riled up by them."

Most likely this entails a mass yeeting of all russian citizens, does his retard finno-mongoloid brain seriously think nobody could take issue with that under their own power?

Linus' reply is fucking bizarre. All he had to do was explain what's up, and instead he goes around accusing everyone of being paid Russian bot troll army psyop actors like some frothing retard on Reddit.

Is this every maintainer who's a Russian national, or are there others? Were these guys specifically selected for some reason?
When a contractor utilizes FOSS the government requires scrutiny of the nationality of the contributors. If you are an iranian citizen (for instance), it is assumed the iranian government can just torture you or your family and make you introduce malicious code even if you don't want to. The government may or may not ever notice a particular violation but it can derail a whole contract so the contractors are generally very anal about it.

You could hope linux would give up that adoption in order to remain neutral, but it appears they already decided against that.

This is a really pedantic nitpick, but those tools have evolved I noticed, to support some flags for eliminating the ansi color codes from their output for use in scripts.
The problem is they evolved color codes to begin with. Right up there with systemctl/journalctl truncating lines unless you give it the magic option to stop fucking doing that.

Anything that has colors should have an easy way to turn it off, and to turn it on because sometimes I want the pretty colors in my log file I redirected, luckily ansible has ANSIBLE_FORCE_COLOR.

If it was a specific consumer of the kernel that had a problem, couldn't they just maintain their own branch that doesn't have contributions from foreign adversaries?

The double irony is that he was forced to do this by paid government actors. Projection.

Phoronix: Some Clarity On The Linux Kernel's "Compliance Requirements" Around Russian Sanctions (archive)

If your company is on the U.S. OFAC SDN lists, subject to an OFAC sanctions program, or owned/controlled by a company on the list, our ability to collaborate with you will be subject to restrictions, and you cannot be in the MAINTAINERS file.
These exemptions may not apply in different countries, and for different sanctioned entities. I will note that China is not currently attacking Taiwan militarily at the moment, while Russian misiles and drones, some of which might be using embedded Linux controllers, *are* actively attacking another country even as we speak. So it might not be surprising that the rules might be different for different sanctioned entities.

Am I reading this right? A government body came to LF and asked them to ban these guys?

Is this every maintainer who's a Russian national, or are there others? Were these guys specifically selected for some reason?
No, but rather because Linux is packaged and shipped in products used by companies that have to respect the US Commerce Dept's list of sanctioned persons and entities (read: OFAC) they probably got pressure from upstream to yeet the Ivans.

Linus has never not been retarded, but then neither have the rest of the clown college at the LKML. People need to wake up and realize that Linux is not Linus's pet project but something bought and paid for by corporate interests, and thus subject to political pressures. He doesn't get to call the shots. He is not a benevolent dictator for life without qualification. He's a paid ballwasher for corporate pharaohs.

This is literally all they had to say instead of sperging out and schizoposting about everyone not agreeing with the decision being a KGB agent. Why did it have to be some random developer instead of a single polite public relations person? I'm sure the Chinese are now drafting contingency plans when they're inevitably next.

They've got this.

While discarding the common Unix-like Linux kernel, HarmonyOS NEXT also replaces the old HarmonyOS multikernel with its custom unified proprietary system built on OpenHarmony. The rich execution environment (REE) version of HarmonyOS microkernel is placed at its core with a single framework as kernel mode. The new kernel architecture, built on OpenHarmony and its kernel abstraction layer, serves as user mode. The OS shares lineage with the lightweight LiteOS real-time operating system for resource-constrained devices like smart wearables and IoT products.

FOSS fags are rarely subtle. I personally don't think Linus's outburst was his real feelings. It is just what is "expected" of him now. Standard lines that keep him safe and people from fucking with him. Trans rights/Russia bad Orange man is Hitler. If the political winds change, he will hop on the agenda of whoever is in charge then and parrot their line.

He was acting out because NSA just made him feel totally powerless, so to cope he decided to stab somebody where it hurts and twist the knife. That was vile, dehumanizing language even for him. At least usually his rants while amusing are based in some objective flaws in the code he's reviewing.

Like somebody else said in this thread, it was made clear to him that it's not his little pet project anymore and that he's going to do what they say, or else.

I agree. I just think this over acting is just a shield, to let people know he is "on the right side of history". If Trump takes control and starts pushing on him, Torvalds will make a 180 on his "woke atheist communist" bullshit. Linus is an opportunist. His Kernel is wrapped up with so much government grants and interests, that it not him speaking. It was the DoD telling him what to say, with his spergy spin on the delivery. He does not have his own opinions on issues. He has the party line.
He is currently caught up in the soc justice and libshit lines, because they are the safe opinions to have right now.

Boo hoo the sky is falling because the free and open source software is not freetard enough. You still see everything that's in the code, you can still self-host, you can do whatever you want. Tempest in a teapot. Literally nothing's changed.
Well something did change, that's the point that people are making. It's a change that many see as a signal for things to come, and are lamenting the loss of a good password manager and debating what to move on to.

Keepass continue to be the fucking chad, looking like something straight out of Windows XP.

If the supposed reasoning behind the removal was fear of backdoors from state actors, nothing would stop them from fabricating an identity of someone from more neutral state, like the xz backdoor guy did only getting caught due to sheer luck. Ironically, recent deprecation of real name policy caused by Hector Martin wanting to commit under the name of his vtuber persona makes it even easier.

Granted it's from some softcocked spastic rather than sanctions, but re-reading this post (Archive) covering the blocking of some STMMAC networking driver patches
Fat fingered the enter button like a chimp and can't edit it for some reason. Anyway, they got blocked because feelings took place over functionality, with recent events it's writing on the wall tier shit:

We'll see if that changes as well for other areas of the kernel moving forward or not given the inherent loose and distributed nature in the open-source world.
