So I am gong to go on a bit of a autistic rant here, so be warned.
Horror by its nature is meant to scare people, now different people find different things scary yes, but there is one universal fear that every human has and that’s the unknown. The idea that there is something out in the dark woods to kill you, or a monster under your bed or even something that looks human not acting like a human should. Horror thus is about exploring or exploiting this fear, it’s about trying to capture that same feeling of discomfort and unsafeTy. This is the reason why slasher films work, they operate under the same caveman feeling we all have.
Horror has also been used to impart warnings or morals to the audience, monsters in older folklore tended to be representatives of various social ills such as cannibalism, murder, or stealing.
However nowadays people are so fucking stupid that they think that all horror is meant to do is to be like “lol those Christian’s are so stupid not like us smart intellectuals“. These people turn horror ALL types of horror and they try to make it out gay or trans or whatever. The cenobites are meant to be a stand in for drug abuse or addiction they are not in any way good, but I’ve seen people unironically say that the cenobites aren’t evil because “they don’t think they are evil”, which I don’t even think I need to go over how it’s dumb. Oh and then There is examples of religions horror films, I remember one faggot, who said he didn’t like the exorcist because “it’s too religious“.
so in conclusion horror is about scaring you, and trying to read gay shit into everything just takes the fun out of it.
