The crazy part about Square is that back in the good ol' Squaresoft days before the merger with Enix, they used to churn out hit after hit after hit in the mid to late 90s.

Just looking back at what they did between 1994 and 2001 and comparing their output then to what they've done right now is enough to send any JRPG fan into despair.

In those 7 years they produced some of their best games of all time, often within a year of each other. Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX and X, Xenogears and Chrono Cross to name but a few.

They have never been the same after the merger with Enix and the transition to the HD era. Losing the Gooch (Hironobu Sakaguchi) who then went on to do his own thing by establishing Mistwalker didn't help either.

Troons quite literally only do this to make normal people pissed off and miserable; the entire ideology is about perpetuating misery for nothing other than mindless hatred. Actually, that's exactly it; parasites help control populations of plants and animals via diseases, preventing populations from growing too large and upsetting the food chain. Believe me, I want every mosquito to die in a fire as much as the next guy - killed a beloved pet of mine last summer, and two more of my pets are sick as well - but they do serve a purpose, as much as I hate to admit it.

At the very least, you're allowed to kill mosquitoes and similar parasites.

Conversely, troons don't serve any purpose; by and large, they don't contribute anything meaningful and are little more than an evolutionary dead-end. Halo and Gears definitely felt like they had more to say and I loved those games. It takes balls to think people will love you enough to get a sequel, nowadays people kind of expect you to eat the slop.

I don't actually know if SBI or another similar company had anything to do with the game but I figure this is a good enough thread for this - I was somewhat hopeful and optimistic when I heard about Subnautica 2, even after Below Zero. I mean, the tide seems to be turning, even if slightly, right? Checked out the steam page for it, began watching the trailer, promptly put the game on ignore after a short number of seconds. I don't know why I should have expected anything different.

Which is sad, because I thought both it and Below Zero were genuinely good.

I was also under the impression that they excluded guns not just for political reasons, but also for gameplay reasons. I also thought that the in-game commentary about the exact reasons why gun blueprints were excluded from the fabricator could easily be interpreted from an anti-gun-control angle, as it's essentially a corporation using a mass shooting as an excuse to not allow peaceful, otherwise law-abiding citizens to fabricate their own firearms. Obviously they didn't intend for it to be interpreted that way, but oh well.

There were no genuinely woke themes in Subnautica, but I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to cram that shit into Subnautica 2.

Might be a couple months late on this but you nailed it on the head and I wanted to write on this. Fact is Kabrutus tried biting more off than he can chew at a price that's decaying his credibility in real time.

I'm actually friends with Kabrutus' old friends, Alex, Retro and Xynjy who was mentioned in a recent article posted here, who actually helped start his run with SBI Detected and the official Discord server (they were all admins there and the Server was created and maintained by Retro and Alex). Contrary to belief the server is where they did most of their decisions and communications from, especially with other creators. Didn't last long until Kabrutus decided to throw them under the bus and kick them out, including me and 100 other active supporters, all for a shitty $800 or so a month (and dropping) and the promise of an interview with Niche Gamer, which never came. You can thank game journalist and self-proclaimed GG1 veteran Marco "Corrosion" Giovetti for that, as well as the news section that nobody asked for and other things.

Currently working on making a separate Lore dump post with plenty more info on this but I wanted to touch upon this before I do. They've been trying to memoryhole a lot of their shitty behaviors and absolute state of their current operations and we just couldn't keep quiet any longer. All of it could have turned out way better if Kabrutus didn't let it get to his head and go for the "Anti-woke" savior route.
