No, Salah could not have possibly attracted a wife in Kuwait. Arab males and Muslim males in traditional societies are expected to be able to financially support a wife.
It's literally in the Quran as spoken by Muhammad. The husband doesn't need to have a job (witness Saudi Arabia), but he needs assets and/or passive income.
That includes rich Arab women who don't need money. It's insulting to a woman with any options to marry a completely broke man. They don't marry scrubs.
His friend Ala is married to a Filipina Christian woman for a reason. I'm sure Ala's family would have preferred an Arab woman, but Ala was broke. However, Ala works hard at a job and has several small semi-scammy businesses on the side to support his family, so he's much more marriagable in Kuwait.
Salah is poor, cut off from his family, lazy and stupid. The poorest Arab family in Kuwait would leave their daughter single rather than agree to the utter embarrassment of marrying Salah into their family.
