I personally don't understand it but if you spend time driving along I-40/I-10, the two interstates that traverse the South, you can tell that a devastating war happened there from little things people refer to or the large number of battle sites, which isn't the case in the North at all. Trump doesn't have that baggage and it's refreshing to hear him talk about Lee the way he does.

In many parts of the south the civil war is just referred to as "the war" it was the defining event for any one's family that is southern. the south did not recover economically until WW2.

The south and the north were and are completely different nations inside of one country. they were different and mostly opposed from day one. the north was settled by puritans. the south by aristocrats and loyalists. The north was for Cromwell, the south for Charles I. even today many sports teams, place names etc are "cavalier" or "The cavaliers" etc.

That reminds me of this conversation I had with this woman I knew a few years back during the summer of love and she was so worried about black people because white people owe them so much and she got pissed at me because I reminded her that she lives in Ohio, which was always an anti slavery state (it was banned in our constitution) and her ancestors probably helped free black people.

There's this certain cognitive dissonance when you remind people that only half of them favored slavery that baffles me. Especially if you remind them that white people died to free them.

Kind of shocking Kamala and the left didn't see this coming. She can't commit to pulling support for Israel because it will cost her too much of the jew vote, so she loses the hard pro-Palestine portion of the Arab demographic that tends to be younger.
