I think his ego drove him to the belief that he had control of April and Kayla and the more they talk with anyone else besides Nick (ie. Real lawyers) they realize he's manipulating them and is an idiot. This they both have massive leverage on him and his only real hope here is to somehow convince both of them to stay around AND to not flip on him.

Another thought I had was that maybe this whole sudden, immediate public thing with April is just a show for (someone) and isn't even real. Meaning after the case it would go back to normal. That said, I have no idea who would buy into it if that were the case because it's so middle school tier that it's hard to believe. Even most people here believe something is going on but have doubts that what is actually going on is what's being said.

I definitely believe the Nick part, but as for Kayla and April being manipulated I think it's more a case of path of least resistance. April is a braindead homewrecker and Kayla is just plain braindead; I think they were content to let the current carry them along until shit went sideways. If they have even a single person in their lives who care about them, they are probably preparing to 'Et tu, Balldo?' Nick in court.

I simply don't see any way this is cleanly resolved and everything goes back to normal.

Wow I remember people making the comparison back when Dan was free and Nick wasn't a child neglecting cokehead, and thinking damn imagine what'd have to happen for Nick to be like this, but he really is transforming. It's eerie, especially with the same angle and vaguely similar expression. He could pass as Nick's illegitimate son.
