They keep changing the captcha constantly in a desperate attempt to deter "spammers" (who still spam). Meanwhile, several devs of mobile 4chan apps have given up trying to keep up with captcha changes and have thrown in the towel. I bet phoneposter traffic is way down as well as ad revenue, I wonder what does Hiro feel about that.

I bet Hiro doesn't care about the current state of 4chan.

Any theories on why 4chan moderation changed from being known as the “Wild West of the internet” and a “free-speech haven” to the cucked shithole it is today?

Gamergate broke their bucks somehow. The site was never the same after that.

Gamergate wasn't really the cause, but it did help shed light on what happened.

Basically Moot had made a point of recruiting mods and janitors mostly through reddit, so that he could have more of a history of these people to feel comfortable with them. Regular 4chan users seemed to be looked down upon when applying since they didn't have some internet history that was easily looked up and were obviously of the posting culture that Moot had grown to loath.

So while the reddit staff were comfortable with the cutesy image of 4chan, the actual reality of the posting culture disgusted them and was shown through their moderation which resulted in the site as it is today.

It took a lot of people aback when these revelations came out in some of the leaks that occurred a few years back, but those leaks were also of course censored on 4chan so people there weren't allowed to find out about it and people saw attempts to direct them at another site to learn about it as bullshit or too much of a hurdle.

It's similar to how Kiwifarms can document all kinds of stuff on someone, but it only becomes common knowledge if a big youtuber does a video based on a thread. Just visiting another site they're not familiar with is enough to turn people off of ever learning about a subject that might interest them.

I see it on every board basically, on /tv/ its Disney vs Fox vs etc, on /vt/ its Hololive vs Nisanji, Phase, Indies, etc, on /v/ its pc vs consoles and so on and so on. Probably fight about porn brands too on the porn boards.
I just don't get the shift from post about whatever to slavery to brands and i don't get why it has to be nonstop in every thread. What brought this about?
Personally i hold the (you) farming as one of the big culprits, they should never have implemented that shit.

This has been going on for years. Even back in 2008 there were arguments on /g/ about which Linux distro was best, which desktop environment was best, etc. They still have the same arguments. Android vs iOS, etc. It's been common to many boards for many years. People in general like to argue and advocate for their favorite whatever.

Also the Code Geass Ruby spammer made a spam thread the first day the 15-minute time limit was implemented on /m/, and his whole thread was just his spam -- no fight back or resistance.

Something I've noticed on /vp/ is this recurring thread with an OP image of Alolan Ninetales, saying that you shouldn't have sex with your Pokémon because it's wrong. Every time, it turns into a huge argument between coomers and the OP, with hundreds of replies. The few times I've clicked on it I swear I saw nearly the exact same posts, I don't mean just the same talking points, I mean like almost exactly word-for-word the same. They get into these huge heated debates every thread, always coming back to post in the next one just to have a completely identical argument all over again spanning multiple days. They'll post about "BTFOing" OP and how they're supposedly making him seethe and mindbreaking him and so on and so forth... when he isn't even real. The individual in question is actually at least half a dozen posters assuming the role of this character, which you'll be able to spot because even for the exact same image, the filename will be different between threads. IMG_9### in one, IMG_01## in another, 4chanX randomized filename in the next, two greek words after that, then "Ninetales [greek word]" in another instance... I've even seen people outright admit to pretending to be the poster, yet somehow nobody catches on, and they're back to sperging about how they totally "BTFO him in the last thread" whenever the thread gets remade.

Absolute fucking lowest common denominator behavior, beelining for the same thread over and over to have the exact same argument about furry gooning over and over like a broken record, with a guy who doesn't actually exist, for months. /vp/ is genuinely the most retarded board on the site by a wide margin. They always fall for the most retarded bait no matter how many times it's explained to them, and they spend 24/7 obsessing over board lolcows that are either just a guy they made up, or some shitposter impersonating a retard that was only around for maybe a month tops, years ago. For example, "Shaun", the guy who spams half the board with pictures and copypastas about the Pokémon Seviper eating and digesting the character Cynthia, has actually been a discordfag pretending to be the original for I think nearly a year now, yet people will still feed the troll and respond to him taunting him with things they heard about the original spammer as if it's going to make him freak out and stop posting instead of just giving him the attention he wants.

I remember earlier this year, I was in the mood for shitposting, and since my bait wasn't doing as well in boards with an average age in the double digits, I decided to go into one of the /vp/ cumbrain threads for some easier fish. The one I clicked had devolved into a debate about the holocaust, because of course it did, so I made a very obvious tongue-in-cheek post about how the lampshade/soap thing was actually a hoax by neonazis to make the holocaust sound fake, and that the real thing nazis did was turning jewish corpses into pickles by "ricking" them and that my teacher named Richard Mortimer had showed me a cartoon about it. I even threw in a few pickle-related puns. Yet, I got over half a dozen replies taking it seriously and accusing me of being some JIDF agent or whatever, they were just completely deepthroating what might've been the lowest-effort bait I'd ever written.
