Yeah 2016 Trump was a more appealing candidate who actually looked like he'd shake up Washington for the better. He also was funny and had more positive messaging compared to 2024 Trump.
If covid doesn't happen or if he had handled it better, he would've cruised to re-election. If he had just said "It is your patriotic duty to help slow the spread to help your fellow Americans. Wear a mask, socially distance and do what you can to prevent the spread", his cult would've fell in line instantly and he even could've sold his own MAGA masks and done some grifting. Considering how he cucked the entire Republican party, I am not sure why he was afraid of them since early on he was actually attempting to take it seriously.
