UN The Vatican now has an official anime girl mascot

The Vatican has unveiled the official mascot of the Holy Year 2025: Luce (Italian for Light). Archbishop Fisichella says the mascot was inspired by the Church's desire "to live even within the pop culture so beloved by our youth."
"Luce" will also serve as the mascot of the Holy See's pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. The Holy See pavilion will also display the 17th-century painting "The Entombment of Christ" by Caravaggio.

During the press conference on 28 October, His Excellency Archbishop Fisichella officially presented the Jubilee 2025 mascot, ‘Luce’.

This character, designed by illustrator Simone Legno, was conceived with the intention of reflecting pop culture, particularly appreciated by young people, and carries a message of hope and welcome.

Luce is a pilgrim who wears the typical elements of the traveller: a yellow k-way to shelter from the weather, boots soiled with earth that testify to the path already travelled, a missionary cross around her neck and a pilgrim's staff. Particularly evocative is the representation of Luce's eyes, which shine with an intense light: they symbolise the hope that is born in the heart of every pilgrim, embody the desire for spirituality and connection with the divine, and serve as a reminder of a universal message of peace and fraternity.

The choice of a mascot such as Luce is part of a broader context, aimed at involving the new generations and promoting intergenerational dialogue. The mascot not only represents the Jubilee, but also becomes a symbol of community, welcome and sharing.

No no no, the Catholic Church is full of HOMOSEXUAL pedophiles! They have never touched girls!

That's almost certainly a little boy, though--

Wait, no, Luce might be a woman.

I wonder how many wars will be started over Luce wearing a rosary around their neck. Maybe I'm looking at that wrong, though.
Those are clearly anal beads.

when the Catholic Church's priority is making an anime mascot instead of the rampant degeneracy and rapid secularization and Islamification of EuropeView attachment 6572811
I would argue that because Luce, being aimed at the youth, is combating all of those things in her own way. After all the youth are the future and bringing them closer to Christ goes against those evils.
This mascot is entirely inoffensive, I have no idea why people are making such a big deal out of it.
People who hate Christ and his Church will take any opportunity to express that feeling.
They could have done a nun, a saint, an angel, a whatever, but they just picked a generic moe funko pop girl in raincoat.
Luce being a humble pilgrim makes her more accessible for youth to identify with. I remember in my childhood figures like Saints and Angels felt so important that it could be almost intimidating. Even Priests and Nuns could have that quality about them in the eyes of a child. A pilgrim however could be any of us since we are all pilgrims in a sense.

Furthermore her outfit and accessories are all oriented towards pilgrimage. From the OP:

I like you mentioned every denomination except Orthodoxy which is literally the OG.
Orthodoxy in Russia is controlled by the state and often takes an extremely schizophrenic stance towards Soviet History. But if you're referring to other Orthodox churches such as the Greek Orthodox Church then you might be in luck.

Paganism also isn't inherently gay, especially since the Germanic pagans threw them into bogs for them to be forgotten about, it's just been taken over by Marvel fans and other Viking media semen slurpers from the TRUE and HONEST Odinists.

It looks like shit. Do a catholic priest holding guns as your mascot instead. It would look cool as shit, and appeals to kids more.
Not to mention, lot of popular children’s anime has or has had cute adorable nun girls that were armed with either guns or a sword or enough holy magic that you dare not make them upset.

I thought it was stupid, until I saw Japan at the end. It's dumb if they try to push it beyond Japan, but for those that don't know every prefecture in Japan has a mascot associated with it, so over there it's a given that a country, town, or even company, will have some kind of cute mascot and not just random anime shilling.

They can get really silly with them, such as Kanoya city's mascot, a break dancing business fish:

Or the mascot used for a concept like safe sex:

If you don't think Catholics are true christians, then who is?
Outside of a few weird sects, really any Christians who don't accept the authority of the Vatican, like the variety of Orthodox ones.

To be fair, it's mostly a complaint against the Vatican establishment, not against regular Catholics who generally don't know what their management is up to.

It's very cute but still very anime and sorta cringe as usual.

I have no idea why her legs are exposed! Her raincoat is massive and has enough overhang to obscure her shorts which is completely fucking unacceptable and far too suggestive since the simplified front-facing design has it be visible skin up from the boots. Is the religious anime loli wearing pants beneath that big coat? Who knows!

Her design is completely unacceptable and the designers are clever enough to know better about what the Internet does to everything. Christ-chan is a far better anime religious thing or whatever.

The chibi-style is throwing me off and I'm trying not to revert to my own style. I really need to practice on sticking to other people's styles at the moment.
I know you'll do the best you can and whatever you create will look amazing. Just have fun with it!

Is it a boy or a girl?
I thought it was a girl until I saw the pic with the other kids and the girl with eyelashes.
