Weightlifting for Kiwis - Discussion and support regarding the art of swole

I guess I'm a rice bucket evangelist now. After half a dozen sessions it's notably decreased my hand pain doing heavy deadlifts, highly recommended.

Not being able to adjust like that is kind of OCD.
A couple of the machines in my gym have a little 5LB C-shaped weight that you can plop over one of the stack guiderails to add weight inbetween the increments. There's this one dude (coincidentally also Indian) who will run around the gym collecting all of them and stack them like they were a totem pole on the pec fly machine and leave them there afterwards. I'd just laugh and ignore it if the weights didn't periodically fall behind the stack and jam it.

Would there be thread interest in compiling some of the info from Isratel's YouTube channel? I've scraped a lot of info from it, and could pass it along in a more read-able format, should anyone want it.
I'm not against the idea but you can probably post it here, this thread seems moderately active at best. Either way I'd be interested in what you drop, I watch him from time to time myself.

Do you guys have any go to songs or playlists for the gym? Doesn't have to pertain to music exclusively. Recently I have been listening to the OG Re4 Mercenaries soundtrack and I really like Hunk's Theme

I think it's a great idea.

Yeah but it's stuff by Swans and Current 93 and Godspeed You Black Emperor and Tribes of Neurot because I'm a psychopath or something.

My gym music can best be described as schizophrenic. It depends on what I’m into at the moment, so it’s like a lot and I mean a lot of Prof, some Irish reels, J-pop, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and various tracks from anime and video games. Mostly Prof, come to think of it.

Head like a dildo, my back is made of rubber
I’m the Energizer Bunny I’m a tough mother*hey*
Tomorrow’s my birthday, I’ll sign up for Karate
And I’ll kidnap the sensei and get the black belt probably

I have been trying to minimize distractions lately so I don't listen to music anymore. I have a playlist of songs called "songs that cause schizophrenia" that I listen to when I really need a boost. They're mostly high BPM prog-metal-screamo-whatever that I blast loud enough to stop my brain from thinking about anything else.

Anyone else been leaving their phone behind for workouts lately?

I've had trouble in the past with giving my chest a good workout. This week, I found that doing moderate weight pause reps to failure with dumbbell presses is able to make it sore with just 3 sets. I think that it is letting the dumbbell stretch your pecs to their maximum length at the bottom that makes the difference. I would recommend it to anyone that has a hard time growing their chest.

If I have an interesting video or podcast that is over an hour long, I'll listen to that. Otherwise, I just listen to a spotify playlist. Either the most popular power metal one or my algorithm's 2000's workout playlist.

Try this wicked set I love.
Finish off your chest workout with Incline Dumbbell Flies to failure and without stopping immediately go into Incline Hex/Smash Press to failure. If that doesn’t get your pecs burning I don’t know what will (except I do, I know many secrets).

somewhat. ive watched a fair amount of his stuff, i might even contribute some (if im not touching grass)

I have a lot of grass-touching on my plate, but I will work on it in the background and dump it here once I'm able.

SOON .

Pretty sure I got elbow tendonitis from weighted pull-ups. Any way to work around that? How long does it usually take to heal? Any supplements that help like collagen, anti-inflammatories?

Took me 5 days, I didn't exercise with it. That being said, I ain't no doctor. If it's not any better in a few days you might wanna get it checked.

Anyone got any good recommendations for Olympic dumbbells? I'm gonna migrate all of my old "standard" shit to Olympic plates to help save space and standardize a bit.

Also fuck benching ATM lol, stuck at 270 for 5, plateau is a BITCH to break!
That is big weight. I cant bench for shit. I need to bite the bullet and just go in and get my shoulder fixed. I have a pretty major shoulder tear from swimming too much in college. I went to CrossFit and failed on 135x10. I was just completely gassed. I thought it couldnt get any worse but I moved the weight down to 115 and gassed again. I would have been embarrassed if I wasn't already aware of how bad my presses are.

Wait, unless you have something else in mind, wouldn't olympic plates take up more space as they are made of rubber?

Also, I don't think they have dumbbells for the olympics. I did see some videos of bumper dumbbells. It seems to bounce unpredictably compared to barbells so I wouldn't recommend it.

Stretch response is important for growth, and the trend is to focus on muscle stretch over maximum contraction effort in exercise movements. Muscle soreness isn't necessary or the best gauge of workout or exercise effectiveness. You should be able to progress in growth and strength without soreness.

I would recommend a good set of adjustable dumbbells over olympic style dumbbells. Unless you already have a shit tone of 10lb. olympic plates to use with them, I would think they would be too cumbersome to use with any plate size bigger for many exercises.

Do you need a de-load week? Adding more volume at lower weight, and adding variations like a pause bench or Spoto press can help.
I went to CrossFit
That's a mistake.
