Mortismal got his review out as well:
For RPGs and Tactical games I quite trust his reviews.
That said he of course got a review code way ahead.
So a bit salty grain on his opinion.
Current Pinned Comment.

"If you honestly believe that I would ever accept any form of compensation for a review, you obviously don't know me at all and more importantly you have no idea how anything sponsored or paid works."

why would you do that
don't
I love going through narratives just to try to re-construct the point of view of the author.

If you can pin down a single, clear position the entire world follows, the author's using the medium as masturbation/confirmation/echo chamber material.
If you can pin down multiple, clear positions that different parts of the world follow, the author's probably decent.
If you can't pin down any clear positions, the author is incompetent.

(This implies the world is complex enough, not the easiest to pick out biases in a picture book)

Yeah, the mechanics and itemization are great, the game also looks terrific... but the writing is pretty weak. Unfortunately, I'm a huge storyfag, so the bad writing hurts the game more for me than it probably does for most.
Dual classing and exploration are both really fun, but yeah never have felt motivated to actually play the story, which is really weak.

Sawyer is fine when it comes to designing games but it terrible when it comes to anything else. Have you played the Pillar games because they have writing bad enough to ruin the rest of the game. Although I kind of agree with the take romances can harm these types of games I wouldn't listen to anything he has to say about how to write a story. A game with the older bioware writers deigned by him would probably be pretty good though.

Deadfire is no Dragon Age Origins but its pretty good if you skip all the story elements and just create your own party. I sacrificed the homofish to some random god for that weird doll thing.

When i first played PoE, i found it a good homage but nothing more. I recently fiished it and it was great. Companions were great, the concept was cool, the story was good and quests were well done. I am saddened to see PoE, which had more positive reception, was a downgrade in someways. of course i am only in act 1 but it seems like a chore to me.
I really liked the dilemmas and quests this kind of world offers to us. I really loved how they implemented the reincarnation aspect and soul to ludonarrative. It was very underrated and i regret i tossed it after my first playthrough in 2015. I believed Tyranny had the superior setting and story but i have changed my mind. both were underrated, but Pillars had more love and it shows.

'fraid not, even Inquisition lacks any substantial mods due to how difficult the bespoke engine is to work with.

It's no Skyrim or BG3, it's going to fail or pass fail on its own. I'll probably get it if epic offers it as a freebie, but like with "Saints' Row", I'll probably not bother installing it.

Later on there ended up being something called "Frosty Mod Manager" which is sort of a pan-game mod manager for any game that is based on Frostbite engine. After that, they came up with a number of mods for Inquisition, but that was about 2 years after release, so many people don't know about it.

soyer is beyond pozzed at this point

he's groveled over the 'poor representation' in Honest Hearts before and was director of the trashfire known as Pillars of Eternity II, which featured playersexual romances including a big blue gay fish guy

EDIT:
also, this was Sawyer back when he posted on SomethingAwful

I loved Pillars 2
That's why I hooked up with Xoti

Why don't you make your own Dragon Age, CHUD?!

Tyranny was a tragedy. The setting is really interesting and the prologue plus act 1 are great, but then it starts to collapse in act 2 and eventually completely falls apart. According to Avellone, Obsidian gimped Tyranny by diverting funds and payroll meant for Tyranny over to Pillars of Eternity. I believe Paradox owns the rights to the Tyranny setting, so I doubt we'll ever see more from it.

Yup, this is precisely what Biobabies wanted. All I remember from DA2 and onwards is how much more progressive romance options have gotten, and this whole tranny nonsense is just the latest result of them pandering to the "modern audience".
He was right, apologize

Wow, that is some 6-head he has going on. It looks like his hairline starts in the middle of his head.

You have to remember who this game is intended for.

It’s made by and for trannies that want nothing so much as little hug boxes where they can feel affirmed with zero pushback or discomfort.

The audience the game is actually meant for is going to buy it and ensure it’s successful. (At least to keep Bioware afloat).

None of the stuff mentioned as critiques:

Lack of interpersonal conflict
Lack of real choices or depth
The HR atmosphere(these people are HR).
Etc…

Are turn offs, in fact they probably make them more likely to play it.

Even better if the chuds be mad. So they’ll defend it against any criticism even criticism entirely divorced from culture war drama as aggressively as possible.*

*I’ve seen trannies go to the mat for BioWare, like straight up strongest soldier apologia. In response to criticisms which don’t remotely involve “le trans and gay people in game”. They have invested far more of their identity into this than any critic and will not let criticism “win” if they can remotely help it.
