KC hyped up DSP as some buried treasure from a golden age of Youtube, that just needed to be excavated, polished, and put on a pedestal to shine. If you go back to his early days, it's a lot of awkward incel commentary that probably suggests a need for a therapist more than a need for a new audience ready to be entertained, so I'm honestly not really sure why they said that.

It's not like he was never ever funny, but as well all know, he rigged the system by spamming short videos to elbow everyone else out of the way; a lot of people were just clicking to see how a graphics looked and literally if it was a FPS/Third Person/Isometric game or what. DPS's strange and flaccid commentary he specializes in was just kind of... there.

I think it's just cause Phil is extremely uncreative so he just reuses things he's heard people say about him against other people since he can't think of anything on his own.

He also does have this habit of attempting to "own" anything bad people say about him. Like when his dents asked him to stop loudly crunching water bottles on stream and he started doing it more and attempting to make a meme. I wish could find the clip of it but there was one instance during this where he finished his water, held it up directly to the microphone with both hands, stared in to the camera, then loudly crunched it while saying nothing. He fucking hates his audience.
