Rumours are that the PS5pro is already missing pre-order targets by a significant amount.

Those with a fucking brain who were pointing out that the PS5 is not outselling the PS4, to cries from sonyfags of "launch aligned", are now vindicate as the PS5 has fallen behind PS4 sales and, at the current trajectory with no price cut, is on target to sell lower than the PS3.

Consoles get way longer support cycles in Japan compared to everywhere else. It's not unusual for consoles that have been discontinued for years to continue to get boxed releases. FFXI was still fully playable and active on the PS2 in Japan until like 2016 and them turning off the servers and asking everyone still playing on console to migrate to PC caused a minor stir in the JP social media sphere.

Japs rarely buy consoles unless there's something specific they really want to play on them. They don't really buy things for the 'potential' like you might see in the US, but on the flip-side all you usually need to get them to buy in is like one exclusive.

The fact that the JPs haven't been buying the PS5 should tell you everything you need to know about it as a platform.

Crazy how that works over there. Nintendo still had operative Famicom Disc kiosks in the early 2000s, and they discontinued the repairs service to the Famicom until 2007 because spares were already hard to find by then if my memory serves me right

Well there is also the fact that so long as the Switch exists as a console to port to, it doesn't take much more effort to include the PS4, as opposed to if it skipped the Switch to only target next gen consoles, similar to how the Wii being so underpowered helped with keeping PS2 ports alive.

The more reputable leaks put it at around a ps4 pro, but potentially able to punch above its weight due to how technology has progressed in other areas.

The price cut should have happened.. uhhhhh..... 2 years ago. The PS3 got a price cut in 1 year (even before the magical $299 slim), and the PS4 got one in two years. The fact that we're 4 years in the console's lifespan with no price cuts tells me Sony isn't doing it anytime soon. If they had, i guarantee, most people would have upgraded. By now the PS5 should be 400 dollars, maybe even lower. (apparently they've announced refurbished consoles with the disc edition at 399.... i guess that's better?)

I think this moreso demonstrates how much market share the PS5 doesn't have against the PS4 that companies are still finding it worth it to port games to, 4 years after the launch of the PS5. They're still making games for an almost 11 year old console because nobody is buying the PS5.

ngl I am pretty interested in the Switch 2 and it sounds like it will have a good launch. New Poke game with possible Metroid and a Mario later in the year is a great start. I hope it is compatable with Switch games though. I do think Nintendo are going to skull fuck Soyny and Microshit into the dirt.
