Philosophy Tube / Oliver Lennard / Oliver "Olly" Thorn / Abigail Thorn - Breadtube's Patrick Bateman.

I love how absolutely, hideously masculine he looks in this video. His male horse-face is inescapable.

LOL AND LMFAO

Toob starts by saying the whole thing will be done in one take and include any flubs, which somehow makes the video some sort of artistic 'anti-content'. But isn't the majority of online content just clips of live streams and podcasts now? How is this any different to a 45-minute clip of Destiny smugly rambling on about a subject he also doesn't understand?

The difference is that Destiny doesn't do four retakes.

"Anti-content" as a term for something that avoids some of the normal practices of social media content creation is already retarded. Calling slightly unconventional content for "anti-content" makes absolutely no sense, and it's a pretty pretentious way of him to categorize his own content as something more than other people's "content". What makes it funnier is that having few cuts isn't really what makes this video stand out, it's rather the extremely tryhard nature of the whole thing. Youtube videos -- especially the "video essay" kind -- are dominated by fairly simple productions where people sit in a chair and hold their mics, meanwhile Choob trying to be Alexander Sokurov here makes quite the advanced production while pretending he doesn't (Btw, does that make Russian Ark an anti-movie? How about 1917 with its hidden cuts?). Adding to that, he already admitted to making cuts in the video. And then he ends the whole video showing an outtake, meaning he didn't just "keep it in", but at the least made several attempts.

He's clearly very proud of this video, and no doubt made it to show the world how great of an actor he is.

Because political streamers ramble on unstructured and interact with chat. Ollie struggles on his streams because he's got a set of things he wants to talk about and doesn't like it when his chat goes off on tangents, plus he has to make a show of pretending to cry whenever he gets a big superchat. He's also incredibly boring on his streams, although so are most streamers - who live and die through being a parasocial experience and are often content being background noise (which Ollie is not).

A "live" performance involving memorising a 40 minute script would be mildly impressive for someone like Destiny. Ollie however likes to emphasise he's a "trained actor" with a "background in theatre" (that's actually how his fans tried to defend his shitty TV acting, before "backseat acting" got banned). In that context it's just the bare minimum expectation that an actor could learn a script - much less one they wrote. There's 21 year olds trying to crack Fringe with a one man show who do more. It's even more undermined by him needing four takes to get something workable, which undermines the central conceit of "if I mess this up, we'll just leave it in".

He gave the game away when he said "I think they used to call that art". He started making YouTube videos because he didn't know what else to do, and keeps insisting he wants to leave it behind once he cracks it as an actor. Not to mention every two bit video essayist latched on to making productions with costumes, so his ContraPoints ripoff is no longer special.

YouTube fame isn't scratching his narcissistic itch any more and he's getting demotivated by crashing views (while resenting his remaining audience), so he's clearly categorising his channel as his "job", separate for his passion for "creating art". I speculated at the time that this was either self soothing about running out of creative projects after Dracula's Ex-Girlfriend, or was planned to function as a showreel. He's attached to Manhunt now but I don't know it has funding...

Excellent reference by the way. There's a Sokurov retrospective going on in Shoreditch in a couple of weeks time that I was debating dragging my partner to. Do you have any particular recommendations? I've only seen Russian Ark and Faust.

nnooo no it's deliberate, don't you see? haha he is supposed to look ugly! on purpose!! look how deliberately ugly he looks, it took a lot of effort for him to look this hideous for the purpose of this video, don't you know??? it's for his art.
I want this to be fake, because all I can see is SmartScoolboy9 :c
first thing i thought too👄. the ssb9 lips is a good look for choob though because it takes attention away from his weird forehead a bit.

Does Olly know that most of the people in this thread don't watch or have never watched his videos or stream? Do he and the other lolcows think that their kiwifans are giving them clicks/views and not just reading the recaps? Genuinely asking.

At one point he said analytics had told him a certian amount of his YT traffic was coming from the farms. It actually encouraged josh to sort that security out.
Lol is that lipstick pic even real? It obviously looks terribly bad, but also the totally even red, and weird shape makes it feel like he just did that on his phones shitty paint app

It’s obvious that it would be substantial….. but why would he admit that…..
Because it means that people who "hate" him are still regularly watching his channel aka getting him views and money.

Maybe he didn't realize that youtube videos were embedded in the thread, and thought people were following links out of the farms to watch one video, watching it all the way through instead of just the 20 seconds where he makes the scariest face, then watching the rest of his catalogue once they were on his page.

Some hell from tumble toob

😬
Uh yeah.
Horny.

Also, Fun fact:
Olly likes to say "dropped" to fit in with the Americans, but in northern English "dropped one" means took a shit. Usually a big one. Sploosh.
So yes, Mr Lennard does indeed drop a lot of content.

................okay fine Tub,
I get why you hate these people.

(also, this is a subject I'm really not in the know about-but would it be harder to apply video face filters to his newest, all one take video? Might explain how he looks even more like his old self than usual?)

Who is Oliver's audience? All of his content, and leftytube in general, is presented as if the viewer is a kid or mentally handicapped. Everything is condescendingly slow and simplified, not to mention, usually bollocks. I don't believe that even an intellectually curious 14 year old would want to sit through a Tube video.

Are his audience just AGPs who are there for the rubber outfits?

His viewcount is pretty bad given his sub count and how hard YouTube attempts to shill pozzed media. I can probably believe there are 500k people willing to put his waffle on as background noise, especially on a platform with 122 million daily active users. What I'd really like is the metrics on how many people duck out of a Toob video after a few minutes of his creepy League of Gentleman act.

If you want a more literal answer to your question, though: chasers.

Okay, the last two Tumblr posts shared here makes me think Accutane was used, but why even hide something like that? Was Tube's skin even "bad" previously? I don't recall any acne scars, acne, bumps, etc. or anything like it in older videos, but to be fair I don't really remember past videos in general.

He's trying to address the surgery and teeth commentary but in a way that makes him feel less exposed. This fake "was he or was he on Accutane?!" mini-scandal is exactly the kind of fake bomb you throw onto the stage to distract the audience while the real issues- related, but much, much more extreme- exit stage right.

Anyway. I've missed you guys <3
