Troonslop "Retro" Games / Demake games / PS1 Trannies / ULTRAKILL / Y2K trannies - Retro gaming is infected

90s/00s larping nostalgia tranny retards be like: "OH MAI GAWD!!!1!1! I HECKKING LUV TEH OLD INTERWEBZ!!!!! SUCH A HECKKING AESTHETIC, RAWR XD, SO RANDUM!!!!" But the moment you say something actually edgy from that time like nigger or a dark joke, they'll be frothing at the mouth for how problematic you are and that you should leave old humor like that in the past.
If these faggots actually went back in time and acted as they do, people online would look at them like they're a fucking lunatic and get told to fuck off back to the asylum retard.

You don't understand, they don't like 90s/00s culture. They like the idea of 90s/00s culture.

If you showed anyone from the 90s/00s, even liberals/progressives, the state of 2010s and 2020s culture, especially leftism specifically, they'd (with the exception of the most radical ones, of course) probably have a fucking stroke.

Many of them would probably rethink their political/social beliefs if they could see what it would (rapidly) evolve into.

Motherfucker WE'RE STILL AROUND! We've been SEEING THIS SHIT!
Lmao I know you mean like people during the time period but still the combo of people treating it like it's the 1800s n terms of timespan difference from the modern era is something I've been seeing on the rise the last years post corona.

Yes, I understand, but I think many of these peoples' past selves would be horrified if they saw what the boiling frog syndrome would do to their future selves.

Didn't Y2K initially refer to the sort of vibe that Powerman5000 or Zoolander went for?
Perhaps, along with PWEI and 1995’s “Hackers”. I myself used to be an avid breakbeat stan ever since I played NFS:U in mid 00s, until I realized that it’s just repetitive and obnoxious electronic music from shitty old action movies and video games.

Btw, new thread title is fucking gold.

Or are we gonna just neglect the games that literally marketed themselves with the actual pixel art from every decade before the 2010s?

Are we going to forget articles and shit covering games where they actively attempt replicating the pixelly game text too?

EDIT: Figured i might as well point out the obvious but they didn't SOLELY market the games like this, but it wasn't and still isn't an "obscure" thing that they did do this.
Bro.
hat said, the atari era kind of blows a lot of the argument out of the water for TV or monitors anyway, really anything pre 16 bit. The system's minimum rendering size simply was too much larger than the screen's actual 'pixels' generally for this argument to make much sense. Mario still looks like he's made of blocks.
??? Read the whole post. Should I have specified I was talking about the NES here and not Mario somehow being on the 2600? I do not disagree with you on your point in your post. I was speaking about the handhelds from the gameboy onward. Speaking of consoles, genesis on is when pixels were de-emphasized. Everybody making the CRT argument seems to fixate on 16 bit on anyway, and I'd agree on that.

I think this thread could go into the Video Games subform rather than a community watch. Right now it seems like the action is slow and it's easier to get off topic with what people think about games and how they relate to culture & troonism. Might as well until one or two start being popular enough to post more consistently.

These people don’t want the old internet. They want the current internet with yesteryear’s old coating of paint. It’s sad.

Reminds me how current Chris is like the polar opposite of his old self minus the mannerisms and still being an ass thing. not an improvement either.

Once again, 16 bit handhelds kind of blow this shit up.
That and the pixel art literally being visible even in magazines.

The original point someone made before it spiraled into these types trying to rewrite history saying "it shouldnt/wasnt meant to look like that!" with there being some small visual tricks that didn't translate to current screen resolutions they did like dracula's eyes looking kind of like they're glowing due to how the pixels are laid out I can 100% understand. It's this revisionist shit it's become that bugs the fuck out of me because almost everything out there both culturally and info wise on games contradicts the "oh crt makes pixel art look smooth guys! you're playing it wrong!!!!" narrative.

Black and white TV shows that wanted white props painted a weird seafoam green color sometimes because because that looked more white than white did on black and white TVs due to how cameras picked up light. They were only really ever depicted as white in promo material most of the time though. This mutation of "there' visual tricks that work on lower res screens" into "CRT MAKES PIXELS LOOK LIKE NOT PIXELS" seems like a weird bastardized logic loosely basing itself off the fact that visual tricks exist for lower resolution CRT screens.

Might work, honestly.

I say give zoomers the old technology: make them live through how slow and clunky early Internet and cellular network were with Internet Explorer being their best browser option.

Take their smart phones away and give them landlines. The phone is connected on the same line as the internet, so if you wanna call grandma you have to get off the YouTubes.

Why do you keep saying this stupid shit? Multiple people have already shown how the blurring from older TVs makes pixel art look better. It's not a "narrative" either you dunce it's literally how the artists made games in order to utilize this. There is specific documentation online written by the people who made these games talking about how they utilized the fuzziness and grain of old displays to smooth out their art and make it look better.

Not playing these games on the correct hardware is a disservice to them. The art looks terrible on HD. If you don't play on a CRT or similar you are playing them wrong.

I can see how they got it in their head that it's all false, cause a few bad actors started making dishonest comparisons to muddy the waters, using later versions of titles on newer systems and then slapping a crt filter over them. Most people who've been honestly arguing this aren't doing that.

What journos had access to for their reviews back then and what the average consumer had are miles apart. You can tell from their images they were either able to capture their images directly and/or were using pro grade monitors. The colors alone are incomparable especially for someone still using composite.

With Sonic as an example, here's how a lot of things can be seen up close with an ok CRT.

And composite compared to RF:

Regardless, the pixels blended together.

I've literally played games on a CRT for the entirety of my life before widescreen became the norm. There s a difference between going directly up against the screen to see how shit slightly blurs together and then saying it's not meant to look like pixels. Look at the grass in the sonic example that got posted, it's still got pixels visible at the edges when you look at it from a distance. You aren't meant to play CRT TVs that close up of course the pixels are gonna bleed together that fucking close up lmao.

Remember when I brought up the tricks used for lower res screens? This is one of them. For shit lke Mario and sonic it's not gonna look this detailed unless they do that thing where they scale down 3d models into sprites. Certain colors when next to each other in certain patterns make it look a lot smoother on low res and crt screens. This does not mean EVERY FUCKNG GAME s supposed to be like that. OG mortal combat is a similar example of something that looks smoother on a CRT but event hen the smoothing effect isn't perfect.
Favorite scaled down 3d model games in terms of good examples of low res blur intent are the DKC series and Mario RPG. But even with those there's some bits where they couldn't get the effect right and the pixels are still visible even on lower res/crt tv screens.
