bro just blackhole the domain in your system's /etc/hosts file. or redirect it to a picture of your grandmother looking disappointed in you.
both have the same effect.
one will make you feel more gulity but the end result will be the same.

I tried to sync MEGA as well as Dropbox at various times between a Windows and Linux system, and everytime it was a clusterfuck that genuinely fucked up my archives a bit.

Advice? Does anyone have a cloud sync system that is idiotproof to set up (I am not smart at Linux overall), and will actually sync files in real time between a Windows and a Linux machine?

If you just want to sync between two computers then SyncThing is the go-to. No middle man involved. If you have an Android phone then I recommend getting SyncThing-fork for it as well. For example I use it to automatically upload all the photos I take to my PC. That, and syncing my passwords and notes. Set it up once and forget it.

Why in real time? If you try to sync something like a git repo with tons of files you probably won't find a good solution. Use a network share instead or something.
Personally for syncing I use MEGA and resilio.

Oh fuck, could we end up switching to BSD after all?
Sure, if we can get more shit to run on Open[BASED], the better. FreeBSD is about as pozzed as Linux community wise, though distributions like GhostBSD are a proper desktop distribution.

FreeBSD has better support for gaming over OpenBSD, since they focus on security instead.

I posted this and the blog post in the mati thread but thought I should share here. Since it's more relevant. Coreboot and another company got around to responding to this guy. Which was also funny (to me).

I feel like this guy is truly a lolcow. There are plenty of weirdos and troons in Linux, but I feel like there aren't that many proper lolcows.

Having run freebsd for a little... No.

I've only been on the forums for about a year but he's a lolcow in the making.
he just needs time to ripen before bearing the lolcow fruit we oh so love.

what other kernels are there?
Take the Hurd pill

BSDs are a monolithic architecture, so "technically" every *BSD variant is it's own Kernel and driver variant. FreeBSD is probably the more widely used variant, and more compatible with running software ported from Linux. OpenBSD is the most based and most secure, but has opinionated design choices that break usability as a desktop OS in favor of security. (you can't run steam or Wine on it.) DragonflyBSD, Illumos are some other names I've heard of but that's about all I know.

Most of my Hardware wouldn't work :^)

I'm just going to use Linux. Idk if bsd didn't suck so much to use for desktop I might have already been using it, but it does, and I won't.

But also, personally I couldn't really give much of a fuck about Russia, or any of that stuff. So it's really not changing anything for me.

So am I, but purging maintainers due to ideology is not a good idea. It's best to keep an eye on things as worst case scenario we could see a steady decline in kernel code quality.

I reckon this move took a lot of the kernel community off-guard. I expect some new fork of the kernel will come out of this. Given how big a mook-face-turn this is, and how the community was predominantly meritocratic before this, this is a lot more of a deal than they're trying to make it. Now the entry requirements for kernel work have gone from "submit a good patch" to "submit a good patch from an allied nation". This partisan horseshit of Linus's should have more of an impact than I'm seeing. But, nothing ever happens, so...

hurd, BSD et al

Where all the alternatives fall apart is them not having the corporate backing for drivers the way linux does nowadays. I think the situation in FreeBSD improved because they came up with some kind of shim system where they can just use linux drivers. (Please somebody correct me here if I am wrong, I'm a bit muddy on the details)

So basically you need bespoke hardware. Performance and compatibility will still be worse than with Linux, which is actually very performant nowadays. It's a lot like using Linux in the 90s and 00s was where it was smaller and had none/fewer professional (corpo) maintainers who actually got paid for working on the kernel. They were not great times.
