I believe he also chose law school in an attempt to find some way into the fund earlier, or something. Or to have leverage over bullshit like whatever he does now. You wouldn't dare not pay a court-appointed (?) fee, but Nick now knows this nothing to really be scared of. This stupid government...
Like, I don't know if there could have been something else he could have chosen instead of law, but law was his choice for other reasons, too, beyond the trust fund (or around it, maybe?).
He also had some low level job in the finance sector after college for a few years that he bombed out on. Then his parents bankrolled law school. I believe the big family windfall occurred when Nick was between 18-22, so I think his idea was he would become the “expert” and the family would trust his expertise to manage the fortune….only they didn’t. He just remained on a big boy allowance and every kid probably was another reason he needed more money.
I think at some point they just told Nick that raising their precious grandchildren should be his full time job, just focus on that honey. It’s why we constantly hear Nick yammering about kid activities, lessons and home school, this was what his parents were paying him to do. I think Nick was very unhappy with this and felt he had more important things to do than devote himself to being a full time Dad. What’s amazing is how hard he failed at it. The minute his income didn’t depend on being a dad, we got the swinging, the hookers, the drugs the Hedo trips, etc…
I’m sure they’ve patronized Nick a lot, but they don’t trust him to manage finances- his own or theirs. His parents were right to keep him on a short leash. They were literally paying Nick and Kayla a high six figure salary just to parent their own kids and they managed to fuck that up so bad it’s mind boggling.
I wonder if the Bank of Mom and Dad are now paying the side piece a nanny salary to keep Nick happy? I’d love to know the extent they are still enabling Nick because of the grandkids.
Nick is the stereotype of the rich kid who did nothing but mooch off his parents wealth while doing nothing of his own. And he knows it.
Nick didn’t have to stick to anything or put his nose to the grindstone because he always had a thickly padded safety net. He could always walk away or hold his nose in the air if things got tough or hurt his ego. It allows one to be a petulant child even if they are 40.
Nick realized that people were very impressed by a guy who could have a large family and run his own business successfully enough to live in nice home.
At least for me, the only reason Nick had any credibility was due to his biographical details. It’s hard work, smarts and discipline for a guy to afford a large family with a dedicated SAHM in nice home all funded by his work at a solo law practice. He definitely let people believe his life was due to his work as a successful, practicing small town attorney. Everything changed when I discovered a trust fund was the reason for the big house, the law office and being able to raise a large family.
would suspect that Nick uses all the kids as bargaining chips with his parents. That they are too valuable in that sense for him to sell outright.
100% The kids have basically been held for ransom (ie fund my jobless lifestyle b/c I’m a full time dad) for many years. The few years where Nick made YT bank is the only time Nick actually earned enough money to support the comfortable lifestyle his parents have always funded, but that’s so over now. He showed how much he didn’t want to be a dad when his income didn’t depend on playing one.
I’m sure his parents supported Nick through the CPS shit because there wasn’t any other good option. I’m sure they love their grandkids but they can’t take on raising all five. Nor do they want them split up or raised by some foster family. They are trying to make Nick and Kayla get their shit together to keep doing the job they’ve been paying them 15 years to fucking do - just raise the grandkids. Also if they didn’t support Nick he can can cut them off from seeing their grandkids. The one advantage they have is that Nick can’t actually support his own family so he has to maintain some level of good relations with his parents to ensure financial comfort.
I get the idea Bob and Celeste would have liked to have a bigger family themselves but the maybe the hard realities of jobs, responsibilities, cost of living, etc.. ensured they only had the kids they could afford and had the time/energy for. They had an idea when the big money rolled in that they could offer their own children the opportunity to have large families without any financial worry. Don’t worry about how much your job pays, the cost of any children will be 100% covered. Cost of living, big house, school fees, lessons, nanny, etc.. It seems like an amazing offer but the dark side is becomes the trust fund version of the welfare queens - having kids to get more $$$ and benefits.
I get the idea Nick saw Kayla as his baby producing machine that should do most of the work. He was trying to find something to do with himself that would fit his own giant ego but kept failing until the lawtube stuff. Nick definitely had no interest in being a full time dad, even if he was being paid handsomely to be one.
