YABookgate

I've met 13-15 year olds who can't even parse a paragraph of Charles Dickens or Rudyard Kipling.
I know I'm double posting, but this makes me want to weep. Our society was given so much, and we've thrown it away. And the fact I can say "our society" without being explicit about which nation makes it even sadder.

Hell, I'd even help make it. Would be better then posting my work on a wordpress blog where nobody will read it.
I have next to zero knowledge for creating such a thing but I do have a couple of web designers and coders as connects through a couple of online businesses I work for. It's not impossible, I suppose, though I imagine the site would very quickly become the target of certain agitators and my life would be destroyed as a result. Might still be worth it.
In the rough analogue of this example that I had, the most common suspicion of the readers was 5
Based Royal Roaders know that all women are inherently irrational. Makes sense to me.
For the past 5 or so years, I've noticed an increasing trend: the inability to read between the lines
Even on a surface level you can see a startling lack of literacy for young people on the internet. Spend an hour or two in their spaces on Facebook, Twitter, etc; and you'll see them constantly butchering basic grammar and misinterpreting everything that the other users say, in addition to speaking in modern zoomer nigger speak.

Have you ever considered rewriting your story to be more inline with what you first envisioned? Seems like a waste to throw this much effort and years of toil away because royal road is a trash heap ruled by petty tyrants.
Yeah but it would have to wait a bit. I'd need to figure out how to retain a credible claim to it while taking it down because a bunch of fucking aggregators all crawled and reposted it so if the source vanishes and I ever wanted to, I dunno, sell an ebook for $5 or some shit they could try to copyright claim it saying they made it. Shit's kinda fucked. I took a big break after I quit that story so I've been doing other projects to get my groove back.
Personally to me, it sounds like the female character and man 2 had a relationship that fell apart and neither has gotten over it; and they both want to get back together, but the conflicts which drove them apart are still unresolved. Was man 2 a soldier or an agent for some tyrannical government?
I can't say the exact situation, obviously, but it's more like both characters are extremely flawed people and believe it would never work out if it was serious. Perhaps a bit fittingly, in the (unwritten but planned) later parts of the story it's revealed that man 2 got the woman pregnant unknowingly at some point before he fucked off for years and years, then when he came back she was married to some other dude and he realized the oldest kid was his. He then basically became the uncle/family friend to his own kid, both to try to be responsible and also because he knows he's enough of a fuckup that he could never actually raise a child properly due to how badly he was fucked up by his own parents and lifestyle.

Even that is sort of simplifying it and that plot is just a really distant side plot used to help flesh out his character later on (he's a supporting character who is in roughly 40% of the story overall), but I think you get the gist. This sort of thing, by the way, is exactly the level of background characterization that I like to do in all my stories and exactly the kind of thing that is fucking impossible to do on RR because unless you literally spell it out front to back and do it all in one chapter 75% of the audience will not only not get it, but they'll think you made a mistake by not explicitly telling them everything all at once.

what's funny is that kids can't even be kids. half the time, school libraries get new weird lgbt shit snuck into them.

You know, most american or english users use goodreads to catalog their reads, however in Brazil we use a different website (one much better). It is called Skoob (books backwards).

And many years ago when I used to catalog my own read comics there was a page that allowed me to see what was added on the database recently. They removed this from the website but the link still works so every new book added here can be seen by all and who added it, and of course it is just the new stuff.

You have your normal books, your young adult romances, your indie books released on kindle...

And you can see who added the book to the database and this tells us so many things. Young women are just reading these endless trash YA shit and there are fags adding mpreg shit with K-pop idols. And this was already the teenage userbase who still reads the same shit ten years later, so now they are reading darker versions filled with sex and shit of the same kind of stories. And the people use their real photos and names, so we get to know their faces

Fagshit (the guy who added is a turbo fag, who read Percy Jackson/YA crap and everything else is fagshit, always giving 4 or 5 stars)

Fat woman who only reads YA romance

Look the profile of this woman... 1600 books read, mostly with men without shirts on the cover. AND SHE IS STILL READING.

Woman cant stop reading fagshit

I get that they have their preferences but what I dont get is that they pick a single type of book and only read that shit, forever, not challenging themselves to nothing more, the same shit on and on and on.

It is almost like YA publishers knows what to feed these beasts and they will never not have money coming in.

It is absolutely sad

Have you considered this is all just porn for them?
Well yeah, but reading consumes so much time that it would be like those women were ultra coomers that could identify a porn star just from the tattoos in a single frame and the film too.

1600 books on the same subject only changing the subjects is quite insane

sounds like proper autism. wonder if this person posts anything publicly

She wrote sole reviews on some of them, by searching her username she has an account on another film database website. There she has more varied taste like Disneyshit and normal american films.

She seems like a normal woman fixated on those novels. She use neutral pronouns when talking about others that could be any gender (something that doesnt exists in portuguese)

But jesus, she reads very fast. Today (12h ago) she finished one with 125 pages, then started another with 219 pages and finished 5 hours ago), then started another one (500 pages) and already did read 100 pages 1 hour ago.

I am a super slow reader, I wish I had her speed

But getting back to skoob. Lets se what was added in the database:

The Heartbreak Show (Bound By Ravens #3)
THE HEARTBREAK SHOW is a continuation of THE NIGHT MARKET (read first) with major spoilers for BOUND BY RAVENS. This is not a standalone but a companion novel.

A demi-mortal with a divine secret
A Raven shifter determined to a win a bet
And a quest that changes everything

Not all heroes wear armor, I was told when younger. Not even the warrior god whose namesake I chose at thirteen when my sister and I ran away.

A warrior god who left his known world . . . in a dress.

But, darlin’, life is far more complicated than a faerie tale. Especially when you discover you are one.

Aye, shocked me too. And very little surprises me. I focus, however, on winning a ridiculous bet made with the gorgeous Gent of Fem, the girl I love, in a bawdy coin beggar’s show for our tribe. But when my meddling great-aunt appears to me in the woods, I can no longer ignore my secrets.

So now, like the heroes of old, I’m on an absurd quest to reclaim an even more laughable birthright. A heist that not only forces me to accept my darkness as well as my light, but one that also forces me to face two of my greatest fears.

A broken heart .. . and Seren.

Sounds like romance/fantasy/YA

Next: Baa Baa Black Market (Once Upon A Rhyme #5)

Baa Baa Black Market... Have you any soul?

Brietta Drover has spent her entire life in the darkness due to her sensitivity to the sun and general lack of morals. To occupy her many days alone in her windowless room, she takes up a small hobby—running an underground crime network for harvesting and trading illegal magic stones.
Business is booming in the underground market until word spreads that Brietta’s fiercest competitor has sent a spy to unmask her true identity. Most ladies would consider this a threat, but a good businesswoman sees it as a way to investigate her rival.
Dimitri has one mission. Get the true name of Lord Dame, and get back to his own jewel lord, Boy. He and Brietta share zero trust, but when they’re forced to share an assignment, the true investigations can begin. Three bags of magic stones have been stolen from the jewel lords, but the culprit is as mysterious as the market itself. If one was stolen from each lord, who is really to blame?
Will Brietta be able to expand her reach? Or will Munster and Dame fall to Lord Boy’s games?

Someone added a draco malfoy x hermione from harry Potter FanFiction:

This was a personal challenge to insert as many prompts from Dramione Month 2024 as possible (as well as a 5+1 fic, but it’s more like an abstract concept). See how many you can spot by the end! It was a one-shot that got away from me!

Lets see who...

Jesus christ, it almost the same person as before

So I was on my nightly incel walk and youtube recommended me a video which is this thread: the video.

I listened to that, and my main takeaway was that the guy's Adderal prescription had run out. Christ was he all over the place.
this thread: the video.
Wait, is that us? 😬

I think he is by and large correct, but if you're doing long-form content a script or at least an outline is rather important.

My biggest criticism beyond the presentation is the fact that he offered no evidence that there is an audience of young males out there hungry for material to read. There might be a reason the market is what it is. If somebody made a Baen Books for young readers, or hell, Baen Books created an imprint for young readers, there's no data -- other than a gut feeling -- that it would be successful. And that's without getting into the current state of YA librarians and what they're willing to buy and actually put on the shelves. There's also the fact that Baen is distributed to book stores via Simon & Schuster...which sometimes makes me wonder exactly how independent they truly are. Kind of a chicken and the egg conundrum.

A counterargument would be the fact that what YA publishers are publishing is book after book about same sex relationships, trooning out, boring messagefic about evil white men destroying the environment, teen girlbosses in the making and so on. If there's overwhelming evidence this sort of thing sells, well, I'd love to see it.

As a woman, I hate how all we write is shitty YA and romance. All the modern authors I see are all overly liberal, too. That means more political correctness and less risk-taking in favor of not offending others. I'm working on my own stories, but they're not YA or Romance or shitty fantasy nor some shitty greek myth retelling so I'm starting to think it's over. And by marketing smut and YA to women, it feels like some sort of misogynistic bullshit, telling women we shouldn't be reading classics or something more mature.

Modern women grew up on fanfiction and other women's kinks. This is all we know and it's obvious. Been trying to get through Poppy Z. Brite's Exquisite Corpse but her gay fetish is really no different from your typical fujoshi fanfic writer, and her inability/refusal to stick to a singular person point-of-view is frustrating.

There will never be another Agatha Christie or Mary Shelley in our lifetime, we're too far gone as the supposed-fairer sex.

I think that it may just be that the written word is better at communicating information that tends to interest women more than men. Romance and YA (which tends to have romance as a prominent component) hinges heavily on the characters' emotions and mental states, which prose is very well suited to explore.

The things that men tend to focus on more, like action and technical details, are just easier to get across in a visual medium. Maybe there's an underserved audience for books that are aimed at boys and men, but maybe there isn't. Maybe it's like saying 'there's an underserved customer base for woman-centered fishing gear'.

(It's not a conclusion I particularly like, as a guy who likes to write stuff with action and technical worldbuilding details, but it's one I need to be open to.)

If we use romance/sex for example. Women can and do read their 400 pages novels for their two sex scenes in a book and enjoys it. A man uses a porn film, skip some scenes and watch what he wants and then the switch goes off. At least for me, the moment I cum, I shut off everything related to desire, doesn't matter what. It is very related to the objective of the action, rather than the meanings and feelings of those involved.

What I guess is that men choose other media to use as entertainment like games, sports, manga so even when the the population is overall the same, the public is different. Even in TV, you can see the divide. Women watch their TV shows and soap operas but men only watch the news and sports.

And I understand your technical worldbuilding desire. I did read this passage years ago and I still like this more and enjoyed anytime it was explained how the entry plug technology from the Evangelion novels works and:

"An impact to her head had left a burnt smell in her nose. Asuka looked around and saw that her hair had gotten sucked into the intake for the LCL circulation system at the rear of the plug, and the fluid had stopped flowing.LCL had the same buoyancy as the human body—slightly lighter than water. The fluid wasn’t easily compressible, and its flow carried considerable force. The sudden stoppage had sent a jolt through the entire system. One of three LCL circulation pumps had broken, and if Asuka hadn’t been wearing waterproof earplugs, her eardrums would have ruptured, too."

You could fill pages with this and I would enjoy reading, but if you spent pages on feelings, I would get bored.

Omg I wanna read these. If the animators knew about that little detail, they should've put it in, but they didn't. Having someone else put more thought into it in writing is just so good.
The thing is that is written by the mecha designer himself. But evangelion in a anime form usually doesn't cover anything related to the evangelions themselves, but he does. The story is basically a what if 3 years later, and they are set in a world where the children are so competent that they must be purged as humans and a new cycle continue. If you wanted your christianity symbolism to be real, this is the work, it is quite literal like people being turned into salt and the ark. It is my favorite evangelion work for stuff like this. Gotta copy the wikia page
Check this out:

''Evangelions piloted by Asuka and Rei change their overall proportions mirroring Asuka and Rei's own bodies as they mature as women over 3 years.[4]

Evangelions can alter their own physical configuration, even when they are made out of inorganic matter. These changes can happen fast or more slowly, when slowly it was reported to sound of metal ocurring inside the holding cages at night. These changes were troublesome to the maintenance team. The current chief of the science and engineering divisions, Maya Ibuki theorized that these changes were part of the Evangelion natural development. These changes became more noticeable after the 3 years of gradual ocurrence. The pilot's effect in the Evangelion's body were observed more in Evangelion Unit-02, as it reflected the changes of Asuka more strongly than Rei's stunted development. [5]

At a certain point, Unit-02’s restraint armor no longer fit despite the best efforts of the mechanics. The armor was removed, and new, properly fitting, Stage 2 restraint armor was created. Due to the results of performance in Unit-02, the same kind of armor was used on the Unit-0.0 after coming back to Earth and being launched again on orbit after the upgrades were installed.[6]

One aspect that regulates the changes in an Evangelion are the Logical Definition Drive, located inside every entry plug, behind the plug seat lies a large and clearly antiquated disc-based storage device.[7]

When an Evangelion is awaken, there is always a danger that the soul within its core could go berserk, and unless a pilot had achieved a dangerously high synchronization, an Evangelion left on its own couldn’t maintain its humanoid form. The LDD constantly streams data into the Evangelion—data that tells the giant what it is, what form it takes, and other aspects of its existence. The system formed the fundamental basis of Evangelion control. All Evangelions had the ability to change their form. This can include the development of new abilities, regeneration, degradation, and retrogression. The LDD when working correctly makes so changes could never degrade or overwrite.''

I don't think so. The Netflix version of Dark Forest (apparently, I'm not going to see it) removes almost all of the game theory and existential retaliation theory. Theories that are very much still alive, and were mostly created by men, and need further development in real life, probably also by men.

If men can provide something that women apparently can't or don't want to, in this case reducing the chance of a nuclear false alarm/catastrophe without falling into the trap of attempting nuclear disarmament, and they feel like popularizing it in a fiction book, that's a really good thing.

The book wasn't all that good (the English translation is better but is limited by the original), and even when it's a Chinese author writing about American theories there's a limit to what effect you would expect it to have on "real life", but it's not something I would dissuade, and it's not something I think can be replaced with TV/online videos or games.
