Nick wants to be able to control other people's opinions and perception of him--regardless of reality. He wants to be the degenerate, cool coomer online, but be seen as the wise father figure at church, or the legal expert online. He tries to distort reality with these word games, and he is past reason in his desperation at this point.

He knows the deception required to maintain this dichotomy of character cuts against his wholesome image, so he tries to limit and manipulate 'the facts' people use to judge him. When an unapproved 'fact' gets loose, he scrambles to reframe it and argue that it was something the observer had known all along.
