US Portland, Oregon Megathread - Tales from The Rose City

Didn't see much of a thread regarding all the fine antics of Portland and the people who live there, so I thought to make one.

Lesbian bar shuts down one week after opening because they weren't woke enough

Doc Marie’s is a lesbian bar that opened on July 1st of this year with the hope of bringing more inclusivity to the city of Portland. But just one week after their grand opening they were forced to shut down because of complaints that the bar was not a “safe space.” Similar to the story I wrote a few weeks ago about the queer-owned cafe in Philadelphia that was shut down by employees for not being woke enough, Doc Marie’s was cannibalized by the woke mob.

The crowd on opening day was huge. One woman said that the line for entry on opening night was “wrapped around the block” with “literally 200 lesbians” waiting to get in.

But the excitement about a new progressive hangout dissipated quickly. Within days, Doc Marie’s found itself on the receiving end of accusations of not being inclusive enough for trans people and people of color. Despite mask mandates being lifted in Portland, patrons accused the bar of not implementing enough COVID safety measures. Patrons also claimed that Doc Marie’s had “culturally appropriative art” on the walls.
One TikToker, who says she attended the grand opening, breaks down the accusations against the bar:

Employees of Doc Marie’s created an Instagram page to echo these concerns. They claimed that the owners weren’t proactive enough in creating a safe space and accused the owners of racism. The employees also demanded that the bar host “free opportunities for education” for the community.

Eventually, the employees demanded the owners relinquish ownership of the bar and hand the business to them. The owners were given a “24-hour deadline” to adhere to the ludicrous demands.

Just five days after opening, the bar announced on July 6th that they had to close temporarily in order to address the cries from the woke mob for a “safe and inclusive space.”

Surrendering to the woke mob doesn’t appear to be working out in Doc Marie’s favor, as the bar remains closed with no public plan to reopen.

It feels like an episode of Portlandia.
The craziest part about Portlandia is that actual Portland especially during the 2020 riots is even more insane then the show made it out to be. Like there's stuff that happens that the writers of Portlandia would never put in the show because it seems too over the top, too on the nose.

Do we even have work camps in the US, let alone with those rules? The only time I’ve seen one of those is in Louis Sachar’s Holes.
In some places, sort of.
California has the conservation camp system. Mostly fire prevention but they do other stuff. Optional as I recall though. Pretty common to have inmates working fire stuff in the west.

Yeah, I dunno about this one; on one hand I'd believe it, but at the same time that makes it seem way too obvious, right? But then again these people are generally pretty blunt and obvious, so it totally could be.

The last day or so the ballot box fires have bubbled up in a few conversations, random stuff like people at work and acquaintances totally unrelated to politics, and it was a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, most people were just remarking that it's a pretty stupid thing to do and a serious crime, but in at least one conversation I had someone interject something about "literal Nazis on the ballot" so don't worry Portland people are still insane schizos.

It's a real shame too, and frankly demoralizing, as one of these in particular is someone I get along with rather well and have a decent opinion of, and it stings knowing now that I can't really take them too seriously as a person. I try to tolerate a lot of differences of opinion, but some people just brain shutdown and assume anyone who disagrees with them wants to genocide blacks and troons and couldn't possibly have a good reason for not wanting to have totally open borders or whatever the topic de jour is. The politics stuff has actually been pretty quiet outside of Biden's one debate and the hullabaloo around that, but now if Trump wins I get to look forward to at least like a month of people going fucking insane, and realistically it'll be a full 4+ years of simmering and seething where people feel the need to shoehorn politisperging into unrelated conversations.

Anyway that's my blog post, thanks for reading. To keep it more relevant to the newstweets, a sick part of me kind of hopes there are some antifa smashing stuff around the election just so I can get more kino footage of them setting themselves on fire. I don't like seeing them bust the city up, but all the places that antifa would stage a protest are half boarded up anyway at this point. For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of seeing downtown lately, it's pretty much stagnated since 2020 as fucking nobody is going back downtown for work.

I lived near Portland (PDX as the locals say) for 2 years.

I used to play coed kickball in the city, and I bullshit you not, the following story is true.

One afternoon after a kickball game, my team is at a bar, I come out to the patio after ordering a beer. The entire team is gathered around a teammate, who is laughing and scrolling through her phone, which she is showing to the entire team. Most of the team is smiling, some are laughing, and some have a look of shock and disgust on their faces.

I sip my IPA and say, "Hey, what's up?"

"Brittany saw a homeless guy fucking a stairwell on her way to the game."

"Um, what?"

Brittany** looks up at me with a smile on her unbelievably beautiful face, ruined by her shoulder-length dirty blonde dreadlocks, multiple piercings, plaque-encrusted teeth, and a general lack of hygiene. She says, "Yeah, some homeless guy was fucking some stairs."

I go quiet. My eyes squint, and my mouth opens slightly as my mind attempts to grok the semantics of that statement. Before I can pontificate further, Brittany slides up next to me with her overpowering BO, and her phone out in front of her perfect tits (swear to God), sans bra.

She has her phone gallery open and she swipes through picture after picture on it. The pictures were taken one after the other chronologically, and they tell a story. Oh God, they told a story.

You know how some houses, which are built on graded lots, have a walkway which comes from the sidewalk up to the front door? And along this walkway, there are maybe 3 to 4 shallow steps which account for the slight change in elevation from the sidewalk to the house?

Well in these images, there is a homeless man with long, greasy hair, and his pants down around his ankles. He is doing what appears to be "lazy pushups" (sagging midsection) at the edge of one of these shallow steps, on what I can only assume is someone's front lawn. The images show him thrusting against this step with a half-chub going on. On his face is this expression of open meth-mouth confusion as his head is tilted back, looking skyward.

Was he experiencing ecstasy? Was he cursing God? What would one think at such a moment, with what must be the most painful case of concrete-based frotterism the world has ever manifest?

In the last few pictures, his head turned, and he was looking directly at the camera. I don't remember what his faced looked like, other than he was missing a lot of teeth, but to this day, that moment has been the most harrowing eye contact I have ever made in my life. The moment when some of his life's trauma became some of my life's trauma.

"Pretty wild, right?" Brittany jested.

"Heh. Yeah." I surmised.

This was during summer in Portland, and although the sunset was a brilliant vermillion stretched across the horizon that day, and the weather was warm, a chill passed through me as I rode the west-bound TriMet blue line home. My perspective of the world had changed. Like someone else had opened the Lament Configuration, and I had unwillingly caught a glimpse of the Cenobites' Leviathan.

I moved out of Oregon a few months later, minus some fragment of my soul.

Dude like half of Portland's Antifa chapter are semi homeless drug addicts of course they are going to be obvious.

The solution is work camps. If you are caught on the street you are arrested with the choice of diverting a felony by going to a work camp for one for a year. Half the money you earn pays for your board, the other half pays for a stipend given on a debit card/first months rent/deposit on your release. If you don't work you get held in contempt and get ten years in prison (which should also be a work camp). If you get caught being a hobo again you are in the work camp for 5 years instead of 1. Every time you return it's doubled. Rehab doesn't work. The addict has to WANT to quit, and if they got caught the want isn't there. It's just gonna put the addict through the motions for a few months before they go right back to square one. As far as the schizos, if they keep fucking up they don't belong in society either. It's not nice, maybe not even ethical, but it is the only way to not have schizos fucking up society.

Anyway, this isn't a Portland story but Seattle, but I thought it would fit nicely here.
So one of my favorite bands Spirit of the Beehive was on tour stop overnight in Seattle. They had a van pulling a trailer filled with about 150k worth of gear. Booted the vehicles and padlocked everything. Both were stolen, the trailer recovered with not much inside. Also the rest of the tour was cancelled. Probably about half a million obliterated in an instant. The security footage showed a two car PIT CREW pulling up to the air port motel at 4 am on the dot and disassembling everything in FOUR MINUTES. A day later PD recovered the van and while it waited in an impound lot IT WAS STOLEN AGAIN. The west coast is out of control.
Fucking lol.
Honestly, that kind of organization makes me a trifle paranoid. Like it wasn't just some shithead tweaker, but someone with an axe to grind against the band, making sure they lost ALL their stuff.

You're not wrong about the west coast being a lawless hellhole, but it says a lot that someone came in like (as you said) a pit crew and was in and out in four minutes.
They're professional thieves who literally steal with total impunity

Man the PNW has a way of making what would otherwise be pretty or even beautiful women absolutely unappealing or disgusting with HORRIFIC piercings, tattoos, shitty hygiene and gross body hair.

Ugh

Businesses in downtown Portland are preemptively boarding up their windows for the upcoming election.

Seeing this post and seeing similar precautions take place in Washington DC, and NYC gave me an idea: "2024 Election PDX Riot Bingo" (mostly peaceful, fiery protests).

I expect that a lot of these occurrences will happen in most major cities if Trump wins the election. Some will probably happen even if he loses.

Antifa is rioting in Seattle regardless of who wins. They've put up flyers promising as much.
