Varric and his stupid fucking nicknames we're supposed to think are clever strike again.

I remember the first time I heard Varric call Bethany 'sunshine' and thinking it was really endearing and he must really like her, because he's a dwarf and dwarves live underground and thus never see the sun, so sunshine would be something beautiful and rare and mysterious to him...

...But no, it turns out he just gives nicknames to everyone like a fucking Marvel character and I was thinking about it way more than the writers did.

It's one big reason, I think. The LGBT and the fujos.

So, is all of Southern Thedas just gone, now? And presumably all the characters we cared about with it?

Lovely. Total Bioware Death.

People were saying Joker 2 was a 'spite movie', is this a thing? Because I think Veilguard might be a spite game.

"Stop bothering us with characters we didn't write, all the people who wrote them aren't here, I want to write my own self-inserts and do my own thing, they're all dead, OK? Everyone is dead, now, fuck off."

I hate you, Patrick Weekes. I hope you die horribly.
Apparently pockets of Denerim are holding out(the inquisitor sends a letter in Act 3)

But yeah its a hard reset of the setting. Pretty much the entire cast of DAO through DAI is dead, unless they need a cameo(they specifically go out of their way to not say anyone is confirmed dead).

If they want to bring back Leliana or Cassandra as a prop piece in a future game, they can do that, if they want to say "everyone or character X is dead" they can do that.

They no longer have to address different divines, rulers of Ferelden, or Orlais. The Fade choice? Alistair/Hawke/Loghain/Stroud died or didn't die fighting, depending on if they need a cameo, or not.

It feels like this game is intended to cleanly end the series, while allowing room for a sequel. Hence the illuminati conspiracy ending.

But yeah there's also spite.

Varric does give nicknames out of affection, or even light mockery. He actually doesn't give nicknames to hawke or aveline though.

He will nickname Hawke in the Mark of the Assassin DLC, based on your personality: Waffles for diplomatic, Chuckles for humorous, and Killer for aggressive.

I wonder if there was some beef between Fatrick Geekes and David Gaider and Mark Laidlaw? I remember hearing specifically that Laidlaw left Bioware under a bit of a cloud, and he was like the only OG to hold onto the bitter fucking end, because he loves this setting.

I can see him clashing with Patrick over the lore, "Actually, no, Patrick, that wouldn't make any sense if that happened because..." and that causing some friction in the writing room, but I don't know.

I'm just annoyed, really, with how lazy it all is. So Val Royeaux is gone? Bullshit. That's where the Divine is. That would be the most well-defended place in the world.

Anyone who wanted the setting to remain immersive and believable would have balked at almost every word that comes out of Taash's mouth, and maybe to her character as a whole. I can easily see them butting heads over that. Not that Gaider would have had a problem with a nonbinary weirdo, but with how absolutely hamfisted it is, with tumblr speak in her journal and in her dialogue. It becomes impossible to accept Thedas as a secondary world when you're confronted with neologisms no one was using when the last game was released.

Apparently Weekes actually pushed for making Solas more sympathetic. Given he was in charge of this game, that makes sense-Solas is sidelined, and only becomes antagonist again at literally the last scene.

Gaider has privated his twitter, and Mary Kirby hasn't made any substantive comment, I wonder if they are both under NDA at the moment.

Tumblr trannies absolutely disdain the concept of "secondary worlds"-they rarely outright say so, but if you read around and between what they say, they basically argue "its a vehicle for either me expressing myself or a vehicle for bigotry, internal consistency and everything else diagetic(that is basically a fancy term for in universe) doesn't matter and is an excuse for bigots to not give me the respect I deserve"

They don't say this, but that's a basic summary of what they think.

Really? Then he wrote some of the best parts of ME2 and 3.
Nothing in Failguard comes even close to that level of quality.

He must have had some spectacular brainrot over the last 10 years. There is little competent writing in this, and I have seen no good writing at all so far.

Tricked himself out of his own talent.
TDS basically nuked the western gaming industry to the point it might take decades recover. Lots of good writers got their minds raped by 24/7 news coverage and "with us or against us" mentality. It's just horrific how you can't play anything without the spectre of politics looming over.

I think with the Origins telemetry data they saw like:

70% human
28% elf
2% dwarf

They hated making content people weren't going to see. That's one of the main reasons DA2 was restricted to human. DA2 was the original "reboot", and the overarching narrative was going to continue with Hawke.

I think it just comes down to laziness, and Bioware not wanting to spend resources on unique content 90% will never see.
Tbf, unless we do AI game generation it was always an issue with multiple hours choice driven games. Only the biggest of autists would play them multiple times while 98% of the player base will, at best, play once with a good run and maybe an evil run if it's not too spicy. It's just a waste of resources for not a lot results, especially as you'd find that people drift into the same choices even if they aren't labeled as good or bad.
People dont like playing little ugly fat creatures that probably look like pajeets. Including pajeets.
The average dwarf smells like gunpowder and stale beer.

Once nice thing about DA : O was that you could just play through each origin pretty easily. Sure there are other changes later but just doing the Origins was a bunch of fun.

Each origin in DAO has something to recommend it.

Human noble-you get your ASOIAF feel, and Howe is more impactful as a villain later.
Mage-obviously fireballs, gives a lot of context to the mages in DA as a setting.
Dwarf noble/commoner-I think you should play both actually. You get basically two halves of the same story. A dwarf commoner’s sister is Bhelen’s spouse/concubine-meaning the warden is the aunt or uncle of the heir to the throne potentially, when they started out in the gutter, whereas a dwarf noble you get to see Bhelen from a different perspective. Really, Orzammar is so so much better playing as a dwarf. I’d argue that it’s the best integration of the origins in the story.
Dalish Origin-this one is the odd one out. It’s very relevant lore wise, in terms of the black city and the eluvians and such. But you never see your clan again(though they do appear in DA2).
City elf-my Tabris play through remains my favorite. It’s so rewarding to go back to the alienage at the landsmeet.

I’d even argue there’s a difference in gender. A female mage gets the flirtation scene with Cullen, whereas a female dwarf noble can be involved with Gorim before the game starts.

One doesn’t need to play every variation, but I do think at least doing two or three each would give anyone a very different experience.

These Retards don't seem to understand that even if I don't get to the content that is made. The fact that it exists makes things better for me as an RPG fan.

I know there is a bunch of content and options I did not do in Rouge Trader because I went full-on "For the Emprah. " In BG3, there are a ton of evil options or the dark urge I have yet to do. The fact that I made a choice that took me into a "unique" storyline, and there are other storylines I could explore, makes everything better.

Well, the Weekes live in Canada (I say "the" but I wonder if his wife is still around). When you are in a country and a company that actively promote one ideology 24/7, they are bound to have an effect on someone's brain. Weekes was probably already a leftist but it is disturbing to see someone that old become "non-binary" with a blue hair.

For world-building, it was terrific.

The plight and issues with the mags are explored, the cutthroat nature of the nobles, the horrible shit that happens to the elves, and so on. They all brought something to the story, and there were outcomes to the game that could only happen if you had a specific origin. This was amazing and leant weight to the RPG aspects of the game.

I feel like Inquisition would be better if they had some something similar, but Inquisition was rushed as well. (At least a scene at the conclave would have been great).

bioware hasn't been good with naming shit in a while, they can't even name themselves something not retarded aka Trick

There's a line in the game about him being "one of the strongest pieces on the board, but only moves in a straight line", so it's definitely a reference to the chess piece. If your question is why Bioware chose it, I have absolutely no idea.

Best as giving nicknames in Mass Effect was probably Javik. Your "edi-machine", and your "joker" pilot

Worst was James.
