I was there at the time. I remember it decently clearly.

Starcraft 2 had only been out a short time and League of Legends wasn't a thing yet. As a result SC2 had a large amount of the viewership when it came to online streaming.

In that environment, there weren't a lot of streamers like you have them now and Destiny was a pretty good mix of being a High Masters/Grand Master level Zerg and actually being entertaining to watch. Plus he directed people away from Teamliquid.net and to Reddit where he was more popular pretty regularly.

To give you some idea, as a struggling silver ranked Protoss at the time, some of his comments on things like canon placement I still use to this day because they were both relatively edgy at the time and very accurate.

There were classic videos of him being paid to rank up other people's accounts where he would be in chat talking to someone, and googling their hometown and pretending to be a local. Plus he was in ROOT which is a fan favorite team due to how genuine people like CatZ and Chad Motherfuckin' Jones were.

Because he was so popular early on due to being genuinely fairly entertaining, he got to go on shows he had no business being on, like State of The Game and talk with players who were actually good (at the time) like IdrA. This gave him an air of gravitas that made him sort of a defacto expert in early Starcraft even though he wasn't particularly good and would eventually become something of a joke.

He also was responsible for a lot of the changes that ultimately fucked SC2 in the long run though. Insisting it be more like League of Legends, making the "ded gaem" meme more common place are at the forefront. Blizzard's over reaction to these things, mixed with bad luck on the Korean front ultimately lead to the game being where it is now, but Destiny at the time was a huge driving force in the general zeitgeist of the community at the time.

Because of all that he gained an audience at the right time that when Twitch really started to blow up, he was able to get a fairly large and loyal community.

And the rest as they say, is history.

It's a very sad (though funny) parallel with Rekieta. I expect the blowout victory for Trump to accelerate his drug abuse and (probable) depression after his efforts with Progressive Victory ended in humiliating failure with the sting of losing ~50k on betting on a huge loser like Kamala being the chef's kiss.

Can't really measure this but I unironically think his 48-hour stimulant binge did more to get Trump re-elected (being perceived as the epitome of the deranged seething liberal with zero empathy for his opposition) than any canvassing efforts he co-signed. Though they won't admit this, even his foot soldiers can see that did more damage than anything Hasan has done, Hasan mainly being a lolcow with an audience of 14 year olds. The last two sentences may seem like a bad faith evaluation but that's reciprocal to how Destiny analyzes things now.

Probably the best thing for him to do is to quit trying to be a political force for the democrats as he has unironically become toxic to their cause but his ego and engrossing obsession with politics won't let him--the true mark of political brainrot. Becoming lazy after taking Vyvanse makes sense, if you're a retard who can't apply yourself to anything and you get ADHD meds and do nothing different you're still getting dopamine for it. He'll never get it. The economy simply doesn't work for millions of Americans. He can use whatever numbers he wants and it won't change that simple truth.
