I've only read that it will drive up prices for the consumer, I haven't seen a refutation of this no matter how much I've looked. There's a multitude. The big one being that I can say my gun with that registered serial number was stolen, and that ties it up while they figure it out. It's sort of like posting your license plate. In the long term, forcing domestic manufacturing stateside improves the average American’s earning ability, because that’s more well paying jobs in those factories and in the industries that support them. (Cleaning, shipping, maintenance, etc.) Automation may also eventually make those products cheaper than Chinese labor. (The Chinese certainly think so.)

In the short term, it will make things more expensive for goods that don’t have a domestic alternative.

Realistically what'll happen is that instead of importing final assemblies, only the subcomponents of much lower individual value are imported. Final assembly will happen in the US then but it's a fraction of the work and won't make anything meaningfully cheaper.

I don't doubt half of what you said, but PSA is really only good for AR receivers (and it sure took them a while to fucking figure it out.) Plenty of studies show tariffs lead to currency appriciation. Lefty economists might disagree, but the dollar has already jumped up in value with a Trump victory.
