I think it's more that he assumes everyone places as much value in material goods as he does. When he wrote Brick by Brick, he didn't understand that for most people, games are just games. When he sees FPS fans getting more of what they want, he assumes it's as validating to them as more Mario is to him. Same with cartoons and movies. The MCU continuing is a part of his personal identity, and he assumes the Snyder Bros are also invested in that run with the same love he has to Feige, which makes his glee over the series being cancelled even worse.

I've given thing to thrift shops because I had no room for them. Bob sells his stuff on eBay because he has no need for them and also needs cash. Bob is going to be stuck in Massachusetts for the rest of his life. If he was going to move for work he would have done it years ago. The outlets peddling geek culture bullshit are folding left and right and that is all he can do. No one is going to come knocking and say "Hey we need your diabetic ass to come to bumfuck no where to write for us."
In what scenario does he see himself ending up in a state that doesn't have some sort of healthcare? Even stuff that is pretty paint by numbers like advertising copy is outside of his skill set. I've wracked my brain before trying to figure out what use bob would be in a professional writing environment and have come up empty handed. Sure he can sit in on zoom calls with film theory writers getting a quip in every once and a while, but that is obviously not bringing in the bucks. Like even if he was nose to the ground searching for more work I cannot fathom what he would be doing that would necessitate him leaving his moms house.
Bob has a lot of delusions, but this idea that he is a struggling writer is what still blows me away. It's pure denial of the fact that he is and has always been a middling youtuber. Nothing about the opportunities he has been given over the years has anything to do with his writing skill. What spark of creativity he had doing his early skits is obviously gone, and his attempts to salvage what is left of his channel are pathetic.
