I guess some of it's leftover from his family where his parents are "working class" (father newsie, mother school nurse - guess those count as 'working with your hands'), so he thinks he inherits the Working Class background. Plus he has to type for his job, so I guess he considers that "working with your hands" and thus "working class". Even though he thinks he is of the superior Thinker
class so he's less working with his hands, and more working with his brain, so then he isn't ackshually Working Class
. Maybe he thinks everybody is Working Class who doesn't live off trust funds, investments, inheritances, and other Rich People Things.
His idea of "work" is incredibly flawed, he's repeatedly said that people who think big thoughts (himself included, naturally) are more important (put in more work) than someone just swinging a shovel or manning a machine, since "anyone can do that"
His idea of the ideal worker is the C-suite of a business, who is an irreplaceable pillar of the economy, while actual blue collar workers who don't even have an office to work out of are just anthropomorphic cogs of little to no importance.
Bob's not lying when he says he supports the "working class" he just has a very very odd and self-serving definition of what "work" is being done.
So it's a mix of socialism and Pokemon - "Workers" matter, but, only those who've reached the end of the Worker evolution chart and are coming up with hot new cartoon ideas.... the Garbageman and the mechanic and the hairdresser and postal clerk?
