Did the series jump the shark with 2 or Inquisition really?
because it seems like they had no fucking idea what to do after origins
Having an entire game take place in one single town and doubling down on the romances was what started this rot. Veilguard is just the natural progression of it
For me, it was with 2. I have no comment on the plot of 2 but the game play and tone changed from a top-down manageable party-based RPG to a personal PoV button masher where fucking speedlines showed around your character like a cartoon. I would have bought DA2 simply on the basis of Origins but they were kind of enough to release a playable demo that warned me.
There is that too
I guess you could say that DA:O was a CRPG that you could play on console. DA2 was a console RPG pretending it was still a CRPG.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I thought that DA2 was flawed but not completely terrible. The low scale adventure, the focus on the templars and mages showed off a new part of the world, the companions were memorable and not completely unlikeable, the rival/friendship system is interesting and original. If they would've just added in a proper combat system and made sure the game had real choice and consequence I think it would be remembered a lot better. To me it's a game that's bagging to be remade by somebody willing to put more time into the development.

You could simply have the main character be a descendant of some of the party members or other NPCs from a previous game if you want a legacy tie in to something after a significant time skip. But you can't just make it the family of the main character either since at that point you're just playing a fantasy version of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Characters need to be abandoned when their story is ended, or we get shit writing that is dumb for other reasons(like Disney looking for ways to keep the Skywalker name around).
With modern player romance focus this no longer an option. Can't possibly break/establish non player romantic shipping else cucked incels/femcels will go retard rage. This really kills a lot of media since you have Persona syndrome where interpersonal relations never progress.

IGN is turning on the game, its so fucking over, it really must have sold like shit.

Even the comments are shitting on the game, and some are shitting on ign itself for trying to memoryhole the 9/10 and the pathethic forced positivity campaign

I would agree that 2 definitely marks the turning point for Dragon Age as a franchise lost its identity to become Mass Effect. Inquisition was a transparent attempt to try and Garner some of the franchise interest back but it couldn't fully commit to being a traditional RPG.

Veilguard is really just the inevitable end point of a franchise that had nowhere to go after the first game.

DA2 was just a bad game due to cash in. DAI is lore distorting trash. It was the combination of normie pandering and wokeness as well as talent bleed.

DAO is the last GOOD RPG BioWare made.

DA 2 was made during crunch. Gaider was involved and its problems are laziness and a lack of purpose. DAI is bad in different ways. It punishes you for making 'bad' or morally wrong choices. It's most thought out character is a cringe homo dude.

Sure, and as you said it limits story telling. But at the same time people want shit constantly happening, even with magic your never have enough time to recover after hordes of dragons and demons ravage the country side, but no... People want everything in direct continuity AND to be the harem protagonist, but then also want decent story telling. Can't make up their minds.

Just a year ago, IGN was turning on RE4 and calling it "outdated", all the while calling the demake a "necessary improvement" and gave it a 10/10.
Yeah, nah, fuck em. They see the way in which the wind is blowing, but that doesn't make them any better. Death to all journos.

I am probably at 2/3ds of the game now.

There is a strong story-focus on the companions in this, which, on paper was probably a sensible call if you consider older Bioware titles.
Problem is, the cast is much weaker than the one in Inquisition. About half of them have little depth, like the gay Assassin or the Blackwarden, others are bland like the Pajeeta, some do actually grow on you and are decent like the bogged Elf and the old Necromancer. Then there is Traash, and most has been said. She even has some of the most clichéd Mary-Sue fanfic traits. For example, the other characters constantly fluff her for being this amazing Dragon expert because she had the idea to get the dragon's attention by blowing a horn. They also ignore her constant rudeness.

If the game has any strengths in the story-department, it is the main plot. The first elven goddess is a creepy bitch that is an insane bioengineer, just with the Blight, and the Main-god who has an engaging back and forth with Solas.
They should have focused much more on the elves in this one, and the conflicts they have with humans.
With the return of their gods, who are tyrranical monsters, there was a lot of potential here.

They were too cowardly to continue the racial conflict that was part of the series from the beginning, and instead of the Elves, the servants of the Elven Gods are the same human cultists from Tevinter that you fought in Inquisition. They justified that with a retarded retcon that the elven gods and the Tevinter gods were actually the same. And the Human Venatori, that are Tevinter nationalists and enslaved elves in the prequels, now suck off the elven gods.

There must have been loads of rewrites, you see some good stuff shining through from time to time, but it is completely disjointed.

Honestly if it wasn't for the controversy, this game would be a 6/10. It feels bland and middle of the road, but there are some shining spots. I don't find the writing half as cringe-worthy as most people, and most of the wokeness is relegated to Taash, who can be practically ignored. The only time I've even used Taash is against dragons when I was underleveled and wanted the extra damage output.

I'm enjoying it, but it's a game I'll forget about when I'm done.

This game is like a shitty blowjob from which you can just about manage to cum

Finally, a semi-solid update on sales numbers.

1.png

Only limited to Physical UK Console sales.

I see some Biodrones taking this as a victory, but I really don't think it is.

The game definitely didn't have the PC sales of DD2, It didn't seem to sell well on Xbox in the US, and I doubt that outside of the western sphere that the game is selling much, unlike DD2 and FF.

Having played Dragon Age: Origins on the PS3 at first I didn't hate DA2. It was a disappointment, sure, but I managed to play it through several times, though I found that the developers really wanted you to play a mage since there's more conflict with Carver. I found that the combat was fairly overpowered and my Hawke mage could solo most threats, so it felt more hack and slash than DA: Origins. I thought some of the concepts were interesting, like getting to explore more of the Qunari and the conflict with the Circle and Mages.

Compared to DA:I, which I could tell was a step up gameplay and graphics wise... but for some reason I never finished it. Even if it was better than 2, I got bored, played something else, and never bothered to show up again. Didn't think the characters were all that good compared to the previous entries.

I can guarantee EA had expectations beyond "almost sells as well as FF7: Rebirth." FF7 is more of a niche product at this point than DA. I don't care how they're trying to soften the blow with these vague non-answers about sales. EA is fucking pissed right now.

"Not earthshattering, but it isn't terrible" sounds ... oddly familiar.

I think both Betany and Carver are solid characters.
As a man having siblings, talking about protect Betany, not taking her to the expedition and saving her from Meredith are peak DA2.
In my next mage playthrought, i'm gonna be a dick with Carver.
