It wasn't until I finished this book, that I started to think mk ultra wasn't just a clown shoes failure, and maybe there is such a thing as a Manchurian candidate assassin. It's precisely because Oneill relies on verifiable documents and refuses to draw conclusions, that makes his discoveries meaningful.

I recall a Joe Rogan interview, a discussion where a lot of the Charles Manson story didn't add up. There were suggestions bigger things were at play possibly glowies killing to motivate for propaganda purposes; and not just some some schizo and his little cult. Is that what you're referencing?

More stunning was the documents from Dr west. I always knew they'd said they had experimented with truth serum and hypnotism, and they wanted to weaponize them. It was obviously a stated goal from the period, but here was a Dr who claimed, true or not, that he'd done it, then he pops up around these extremely mysterious prolific murders, where the perpetrators appear to be entranced. Mostly I'd thought mk ultra was a series of studies with bad methodology, abuses of human rights, and questionable speculation about what could be done, but never anyone who claimed to have done it.

It seems like everyone staked their hopes and dreams on lsd at the time. Some believed it could be a tool for mass enlightenment and elevation, others saw a tool for mass control, and others saw a weapon to breakdown the human subject and recreate it as a weapon. It's very interesting to think that, only just recently, have psychs been used in much lower doses, for trauma therapy.

It reminds me of the dionysian mysteries, and the rites of peyote and Salvia divinorum. What our reductionist materialist culture calls set and setting, used to be a rich and storied tapestry of norms and expectations, with countless guardrails and the expertise and care of a community and culture. It wasn't in pursuit of a faustian transcendence, just to reach little further beyond the veil and come back.

The people of the post war period are not equipped for this kind of delicate probing. The method of numbing down people with pills is pretty spot on from Huxley. Antidepressants and contraceptives are pretty much "a must have" for the current West to keep rolling its lifestyle. Most countries in the world, even those with clean drinking water, and even some parts of the USA, don't have fluoridation programs.

Ireland, New Zealand, Malaysia and Hong Kong are all countries with national fluoridation programs, and yet, none of them are statistically different than the rest of the world that does not have fluoridation.

The US army put out an open contract for a new sidearm later to be named the M17 in 9mm. The two main competitors were Glock with the 19X model they submitted for testing and the SIG P320 series they submitted.

2 decades ago Glock had issues with a certain caliber, this was never resolved as a fault in the gun or out of spec ammo civilians manufactured and loaded themselves but, it was remedied by reinforcing parts. Since then they became the US standard for law enforcement, reliability, simplicity, weight etc.

When the P320 first came out as all modern guns it was designed to be "drop safe" as in fully loaded ready to fire it could be dropped and have no chance of firing, this was proven wrong by 101 videos on social media showing when dropped at a certain angle it will fire. What was worse rumors began the gun would simple fire all by itself, even holstered with barely any kinetic influence. Last I recall SIG was facing some 20+ civil suits from cops/civilians getting shot in the thigh from a holstered P320. It was only a matter of time before videos were leaked showing holstered Sig P320's firing all by themselves under light kinetic force

From what I have read all independent US army testing revealed the Glock to the be the better firearm in multiple tests but still went with the Sig as the M17 general duty sidearm. Rumors leaked critical out of spec parts were being subcontracted delivered and assembled into "safe ready to ship" P320s. There were some other odd stories of violating international laws of arms sales to countries currently in conflict.

I think it's clear Sig simply conspired to produce at first glance high quality duty weapon and immediately cut corners. The bigger question is if some army high ranking General has an offshore account with a few million dollars of motivation money. No way to tell really.
