Yeah, it was. Someone I know was praising the director for being brave and subversive. I wasn't so sure of that, I got the memo immediately that it was an immature spiteful piece. Anyone with a hint of wisdom would just not make a sequel if they wanted to bury the character. The director brought attention to it instead and made himself look like an embarassment just to prove a point.

the problem with the Joker 2 even on a conceptual level i dont buy that Arthur Fleck would do anything post-Joker 1. Because then that contradicts the ambiguity of how much Joker's killings were embraced by the 99 percent... like maybe he is just having delusiosn of granduer and once medicated would just be a normal guy in a padded cell?

The fans of the Joker 1 movie I know just pretend the second movie doesn’t exist. Seems like a fine way to handle it. But I guess it got (((Todd Phillips))) out of Hollyjew purgatory so so that’s all that matters in the end.

Since this thread got necroed I'm going to ramble about shitI may or may not already have and am too lazy to check currently.
I have a theory this movie wasn't always the piece of shit it became. Some beats were more than likely similar from the start, the only real path to go for a sequel to joker is understandably a coutroom where the protagonist and the audience both know WILL end in a guilty charge already know the outcome to the case. Anyone that paid attention to the first movie and didn't write everything off as "oooh arthur just crazy and then he BECOME THA JOEKER"would get that arthur despite being the joker in the joker movie isn't the same joker as most jokers, I already covered this earlier. Anyways there's some very specific points surrounding Arthur's personality that are just the complete fucking opposite of the traditional Jack napier joker which means that if there was going to ever be a harley quinn he's not gonna be the manipulator in the relationshp. people saw that shit coming a mile away when they said she was gonna be a character in the sequel a few years back around the ame time it got revealed as being a musical.

The trailers for joker 2 were raw clickbait, showcasing shit that never showed up in the final movie or was just daydream sequence shit. I've already pointed this out. A ton of people have already pointed this out. Media review people though got this weird headcanon about arthur joker as "super incel empowerment scary crazy guy" when the whole point was he was "mildly disabled everyman pushed to the fucking limit" Him being unable to keep up with expectations of being "THE JOKER" was also clearly something that was gonna be covered in the sequel fromt the getgo is what I'm saying. I know peole have pointed out that arthur can't keep the pressure of being joker but like I don't think people like fully understand how many plot beats in this movie are just the only kind of thing they could have done with a followup story. One thing that 100% DID NOT HAVE TO BE A PLOT BEAT IS HIM GETTING THE WILL TO TRY BEING JOKER RAPED OUT OF HIM BY PRISON GUARDS AND THEN SHANKED BY SOME LITERAL WHO MEANT TO BE HEATH LEDGER EVEN THOUGH THE TIMELINE MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE FOR IT TO TIE INTO THE DARK KNIGHT.

So basically there's only two pivot points in this train wreck of a movie: The rape scene and the stab scene.

And both points lead to nowhere. The first one is just for shock value and the last one is pure retardation. At least, this'll guarantee there will be no sequel to whatever the fuck Joker was supposed to be as a franchise.
 
God even forgetting about the rape scene and the stabbing, this is the most godawful movie I've seen in a very long fucking time. I sailed the high seas for it and still feel like I am owed a refund. I like musicals more than your typical straight white male might, and for the life of me can't see why this movie movie needed to be a musical as it added NOTHING to story and in fact took away from it. Every time they broke into song it was terrible and I wanted them to stop.

Having never had to look at her for any extended period of time before this, I'm now pretty much convinced that "lady" gaga was born a dude. "Born this way" indeed.

There was literally one scene that didn't piss me off.

They erased all of his character development from the 1st movie, the song didn't progress the story, nor reveal anything the audience didn't already know, and the courtroom scenes just recapped what we saw in the first film.

It was a very pointless movie.

I just pretend that this piece of shit doesn't exist.

The only good thing about this movie was the animated intro, and the trailer for the movie itself.
 
Read a fanfic someone wrote what the second movie could have been. The gist of it was Arthur tried to live up to the joker persona everyone gave him but later come to realize he dosent like being the "joker" everyone wants him to be and just want to be left alone and live in peace. The inner circle of his fanbase didn't like that so they had him killed in a way that made him look like a martyr so the "joker" would live on in spirit. that sounded alot better then whatever crap we got.

I would have respected this movie a whole lot more if it had taken the "Freddy Got Fingered" approach, where Todd Phillips is given carte blanche with the budget and he goes "Everything burns!" and makes an unmitigated and hilarious train wreck of a movie to give the studio the middle finger for giving him this much money for a sequel that nobody wanted.

Instead, this movie is very clearly a "fuck you" to anyone who even saw the first movie, let alone liked it. It's pretentious garbage that further showcases that Pedowood is far up its own ass.

Yes, I just made the argument that Tom Green has more artistic integrity than Todd Phillips. I stand by that.

A similar thing happened with the DVD to beetlejuice beetlejuice. The copies I saw only had the man himself on the cover his pinstripe suit patern and the second "beetlejuice" was partly covered by stickers. Saying the original prince and a rollback price.


I get the title thing covered up was more the store's doing but putting ONLY beetlejuice on the front or something associated with him and not the actual poster for the film (something the blu ray avoided and has the poster for the cover) it's clear Warner is trying to fool customers into thinking sequels, even recent and not legacy ones. Are the same as, or just as good as the precursors.
