A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

And for some reason Sue doesn't want the job Kier offered.

He went out of his way to create an entirely new position for her, which says a great deal. A brand new position to hand over a wodge of cash to this woman in what is clearly an attempt to reward her for taking down Boris and protecting Starmer. She only refused it now, after previously accepting, because she's sensed blood in the water and doesn't want to shackle herself to Starmer's ship in case it sinks.

I'm not saying Gary Lineker is definitely a nonce but with the intersection of "sanctimonious arse preaching about topics a million miles from his area of expertise" and "highly-paid BBC presenter gently encouraged out the door", the diagnosis doesn't look too good.

For the new Archbishop I reckon they'll choose whoever is the highest on the totally-not-just-a-muslim scale. Like the "converted Christian" that the CoE got into the country who then tried to bomb the women's hospital in Liverpool.

It's a daily fail article so ignore the hyperbole, but it's another example of people being snuck into these communities and no one told until they're already there.

Moment public meeting descends into chaos as locals are told hotel migrants 'will be given private healthcare' to stop them being a burden on 'very stretched' services

A public meeting descended into chaos after locals were told hundreds of illegal migrants staying at a hotel could soon be getting access to 'free private healthcare'.

The bombshell accusation was made during a fiery debate led by members of Trafford Council, in Greater Manchester, sparking an outcry of anger from local residents.

Nathan Evans, Conservative group leader at the council, claimed asylum seekers housed at the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham had been contracted to a private 'doctors' system'.

However, health cover for the migrants staying at the Cresta Court will be provided by not-for-profit provider GTD Healthcare.

It comes after the hotel was abruptly converted into migrant accommodation for some 300 men, with the news only coming to light after thousands of bookings - including some wedding receptions - were cancelled without warning.

Speaking at a church meeting about the fiasco, worried locals voiced their fears about the migrants at the hotel and the impact they would have on the area's 'stretched' health services.

'They're contracted with... a private doctors' system,' Councillor Evans told residents. '[That's what] my understanding is. It's not a statement of fact. That should mean they won't be putting weight on our local [health services].'

The government has a legal requirement to provide migrants with healthcare treatment.

Health cover for the migrants staying at the Cresta Court will be provided by not-for-profit provider GTD Healthcare, which stressed it did not provide private care and was being commissioned by the NHS.

A spokeswoman said: 'With regards to the provision of NHS services at Cresta Court Hotel, I can confirm that GTD healthcare is in discussions with commissioners at NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board and local primary care providers regarding healthcare support over the winter period.'

She said that while GTD Healthcare – known until 2008 as GoToDoc – is not part of the NHS, it only provides NHS-commissioned services and not private services.

It is employee-owned and runs 13 GP practices as well as urgent care centres. Asylum seekers are entitled to free NHS care while their claims are assessed.

Rob Bellingham, chief officer for commissioning at NHS Greater Manchester, said: 'We have a duty to secure the provision of safe and appropriate NHS care for people while their asylum claims are being managed.

'NHS Greater Manchester has made arrangements with a local primary care provider to ensure asylum seekers who have arrived very recently receive the immediate care they need.'

Footage of last week's meeting has since been shared online.

Cllr Evans claimed he found out last week that the healthcare plan for migrants had been contracted out - as the Tory chief accused the Labour government of a 'wall of silence' over the situation.

It comes as Labour said it would stop hotels being used to house asylum seekers - although Cresta Court Hotel's use is 'newly created', according to Sky News.

In the meeting, Cllr Evans went on to say he did not support housing single male migrants at the hotel, but that it 'keeps them out of our doctors' surgeries.

'We just had our Minor Injuries Unit at Altrincham Hospital closed. We've now 300 people on our doorstep,' he told Express.co.uk.

'My understanding is that they are taking out a contract to support these people. Meanwhile, people here can't get a doctor's appointment.'

He added residents had been stonewalled by Whitehall, and claimed the move to house hundreds of migrants in the hotel had been a 'ministerial decision'.

'It's not like this has happened by accident. Someone took this decision. People are worried about it,' he said.

'Residents don't want them at the hotel, right in the centre of the town.'

Young men thought to be asylum seekers were pictured earlier this week gathering in the hotel car park, smoking and drinking coffee.

The decision to move migrants into Cresta Court has sparked a fierce debate locally.

During the church meeting, residents raised their fears about safety and blasted an 'information vacuum' and lack of prior consultation about the hotel's conversion.

One woman, her voice shaking, questioned whether the hotel was 'effectively an open prison' near several local girls' schools and a nursery, reported GB News.

She added she had already cancelled a night out with friends over safety worries.

Another person expressed concerns about her daughter's safety at night, suggesting the men came from a country that 'doesn't value women'.

Gwyneth Roper, who hosted the church meeting, reportedly said: 'I can't say I agree or disagree with what's going on because we've just been kept in the dark and treated like mushrooms.'

While one resident asked if there would be a curfew or whether the migrants would be free to wander around after 7pm.

Community police officer Colin Dytor, in comments quoted by Sky News, said: 'We can't just lock people up who haven't committed a crime. We live in a very tolerant and open society, and we have to continue that.'

Connor Rand, Labour MP for Altrincham and Sale West, added that background checks had been conducted on the men by the Home Office.

A spokesman for Serco - which runs the hotel - claimed 'no decision' had been taken on 'how healthcare will be provided to those' at the site.

MailOnline has approached Trafford Council for further comment.

NHS, private or "aksually it's NHS via a private party " its still something we're going to be funding.

Also strange it's all young single males, I thought these poor people were all poor avused women and children according to the media.

I use private health as my last NHS experience was abysmal. I did notice two bulb-headed, fresh off-the-boat somalians in there and assumed they were NHS referrals because they couldn't speak much English, much to the ire of all of the staff there.

Horrifying thought that the illegals could start flooding private clinics. Then where do we go?

If that's the case I bet there would be a new subset of "super private" clinics or refusing migrants because it affects business because eventually people will stop going private if it gets too much.

This actually made me MATI I fucking hate Starmer he is the final boss of leftoid ideaology.

In other news the Europe leaders are snubbing him though.

Moment public meeting descends into chao
if you watch the video it's as if they think they've got a really clever reply to the member of public.

no we aren't going to send them into the NHS. I think they're using a service called gotodoc.
AHA fuck you alt right nazi bastards , we're not using the NHS hahahahahahahaah. fuckin' owned bitch.- their internal monologue

fortunately straight away the locals realise they're getting tier 1 treatment and are getting private healthcare that most can't afford.

Too late, his minions have assembled. Here's a doom pill:

Talking to normie cattle at work today, ages 20-30 (5 of them), lower middle-class background, would classically be called chavs in the 90s. Own the latest phones, partake in the latest slop, drop thousands on fifa and cod. Literally thousands.

Got talking about online chats. they ALL agreed that naughty words on the internet should have you fined and thrown in prison. I start the convo off in a light-hearted a joking manner and they turned it aggressive quicker than a lefty jumps on trump.
One lad said "If a black footballer misses a penalty, you think it's ok for me to go on twitter and drop Nbombs?!"
"Yes" I replied. "Why not?"
"It's hate speech and promoting hate" he snarked back
"It's the internet. it isn't real. IRL be a decent human being, on the internet say what you want. it isn't real" I retorted
"It's promoting hate either way and should be punished" he got up and stormed off.

I worry that if the labour tries to push online hate bills, it will be welcomed with open arms.

Null is right when he says we get what we deserve in terms of government, sad reality is that most "people" here are very heavily entrenched in their Norman yoke serf morality, they always think it's sensible to restrict things because that's just how their objective good is measured.

The did the same with housing. Not sure if it’s still going but Angel Housing Association used to pretty much just house immigrants, that way the government could say “look, they’re not taking council houses” and even though the tax payer was funding a private company to house them.

People should understand that a substantial portion of this country enjoyed lockdown, do not think much of free speech, and would happily see magna carta burned. The smoking ban is popular. Online privacy is a fringe issue. Handguns scare 'the public'.

Our country is full of missionaries for the state. Back in the good old days, they could piss off abroad and convert the savages. Now, they prefer to 'educate' us thickos at home.

“A certain vagueness of soul, together with a great gregariousness and tendency to be moulded by example and by prevalent opinion, is requisite for feeling free under English liberty. You must find the majority right enough to live with; you must give up lost causes; you must be willing to put your favourite notions to sleep in the family cradle of convention. Enthusiasts for democracy, peace, and a league of nations should not deceive themselves; they are not everybody’s friends; they are the enemies of what is deepest and most primitive in everybody. They inspire undying hatred in every untamable people and every absolute soul.”

Ed West: The Fantasy of English Freedom.

edit: liberty was a byproduct of the English character, not the goal. Free souls, The Levellers, Paine, Lawrence, the 'eccentric' have always been ostracised by greater society.

It also needs to be more widely understood that much, indeed most of that substantial portion, are under 30.

The kids are not alright. They were allowed to live online, in that their childhood and adolescent socialisation, their period of 'finding their tribe' and 'finding their place in the world' was done mostly online via a smartphone and several major social media apps.

The internet is IRL to them. It does not, for them, have the same quality of being 'another place' as it does for us old bastards because they never grew up in a world where you had one IRL persona and the freedom to have a second (or more) online persona that was different. They grew up in the world where who you are online is who you are, and your IRL identity or persona is genuinely subsumed into that.

The young people would no more call someone nigger on the internet that they would say it to someone's face. They view the two as equivalent.

Even the 'forced socialisation' aspects of school and university, when young people are compelled to go and touch grass most days, broke down for almost three years for a whole generation by them literally being locked in their accommodation. The shy and awkward were isolated and became, as could readily be expected, weird. We do not raise the young of our species in social isolation because all information we have ever had on child development indicates it fucks them up supremely.

But we did it, and it is done, and there is no will at all to take their distraction boxes out of their hands. The lack of public support for even a ban on smartphones in schools is fucking astounding. It is apparent to anyone with enough neurons to form synapses that no cunt can be expected to concentrate in school when holding the flashing binging dopamine dispenser. And yet the parental response to having the braindeath box taken off their kids is lukewarm at best.

This is Infinite Jest, and the iPhone is the Entertainment. The kids have lost all desire to do anything but look at phone, press button on phone, respond to prompts and alerts from phone. They are going through their lives anaesthetised to reality. The internet is their reality. That is a cultural shift that the olds cannot bridge with them. When something is happening at home, in a classroom, in the streets, they do not like, they literally reach into their pocket for a device that on command replaces the bad thoughts and feelings with shiny little bursts of dopamine. They are able to replace one reality with another, constructed, comfier one.

They are fucked. No humans have ever been born and raised in those conditions. Those conditions are antithetical to every psychological feature our species has developed to care for itself and keep itself safe. Our brains simply do not evolve fast enough to adapt to that kind of shattering change in the timeframe we have inflicted it upon young people.

There is little that can be done for the zoomers, but it is probably not too late to normally socialise the Alphas if they have their phones removed and are made to go outside and do some of that In-Person Socialising. We laughed at Chris years ago when he had his outburst about "In-Person Socialisation is a BUST". This exact comment is now repeated with no irony and very little humour thousands of times a day across tiktok, across youtube, across discord. Our young people's view of interacting with each other is the view that we once ascribed to a literal motherfucking retard. That's frightening.

The trouble is, kids who slump and stare fixedly at screens for hours on end are so much easier to look after than kids who want things and need attention and input. They will be so quiet if you just give them maybe eight to ten hours of TikTok a day. This is now considered a normal amount of time for a child to be online every day. That was not normal to us even in adulthood, let alone childhood. They are completely fucked up by this 'parenting'.

It is literally against the law to hand your kid fags and booze because it is known to severely harm their development. It is now against the law to give under 16s fucking energy drinks because of the effects on their physical health, concentration and psychological development.

It remains absolutely legal to give them 24/7 access to a device that is perpetually internet-enabled. In the face of the well-attested collapse in the mental health of under 16s and under 25s, in the face of an explosion in learning disorders related to attention and concentration, in the face of data suggesting the zoomers' IQ is lower than both the millenials and Gen X as cohorts, nothing is done. Smoking was accepted to cause cancer - and duly regulated - on a smaller body of evidence than we have now to show endless screen access damages kids' development.

There is a widespread total lack of understanding of the scale of what has been done, and is continuing to be done, not just culturally and socially, but psychologically, in terms of their actual mental development, to the children of western nations.

If it is not addressed soon, and significantly, the alphas will be as fucked as the zoomers, and then the zoomers will be expected to breed and raise the next generation after that. I am not sure, at a population level, they are equipped to manage that.

I nearly stood up and clapped reading that post. Absolute perfection.

indeed most of that substantial portion, are under 30.

These two points made me pause for thought. I knew the younger generation were different because of the internet, but I never put 2+2 together, until I read that, that they're a separate species. They share so little in common with how we view and understand the real world, and the separation between the ethereal internet and real life, that they are not pure Homo Sapiens.

As an addition to that, there are blokes I work with who are 45-50, who haven't suffered arrested development like most 30-40 year olds, but are just a little...off in their personalities. You've made me realise that these poor sods were locked in isolation, some away from their wives and children, and have suffered regressed development; they seem to be childlike in their absolute obedience to authority, while happy to throw social order and cohesion to the wind. As if the two are crossed wires in their minds.

The mental health crisis is mental though. Whenever I meet a new coworker or whatever and the small talk gets on to families, the usual question of "do you have kids?" is always answered "Yeah, I have X children, Y of them are autistic". Ok, I didn't ask about their medical histories but thanks. Everyone has an autistic child and they MUST tell you immediately. There was a time when such affliction was best not to be made public knowledge.

If it is not addressed soon, and significantly, the alphas will be as fucked as the zoomers, and then the zoomers will be expected to breed and raise the next generation after that. I am not sure, at a population level, they are equipped to manage that.
I've worked with a lot of 18 to 25 year olds zoomers, namely through apprenticeships and they are honestly the worst people I've ever worked with and it's all down to those damn phones. They will never put the things down or away and the open hostility you get for telling them to put it away as something I'd see from a child and not someone in the work place (I know most work places turn into adult day cares but bare with me).

But it's not just that, they simply don't know how to talk to people. A lot of them will try talk to you as if they've known you their whole lives and immediately start trying to "banter" with you I've on more then one occasion had to tell them to fuck off and remind them of who their speaking to but they just don't get it. The internet and hands off parenting has done so much damage to zoomers that it's unreal and from what I've observed, alpha looks like it will be even worse then the Zoomers.
