I think starting with movie gun clones had a lot to do with how much push he got. There's a real chance the youtube censors thought he was building airsoft clones. If you saw 60 seconds of a dude running around the Arizona desert in a balaclava and Rhodesian camo, would you expect him to be anything other than an airsofter?

I think he just filled a niche in the market and had a lot of grass roots growth. LARPers were all airshitters or boring and he just made shipost videos.
He hit it big and now he is hitting the Bolivian marching powder. You don't need some grand conspiracy to explain gun tubers being shitheads. It turns out that anyone who make their hobby their personality are a bit screwy no matter how based you think that hobby is.
