You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

❄️ winter sucks ❄️

  • it is like sunset all "day" with harsh low-angle sunlight (if the sun is even out)
  • you may have to bundle up in a whole spacesuit of clothes just to go outside
  • once it's past Christmas and New Year's it's just endless crappy cold "days"
  • sun seems to run on business hours: up by around 9 and down by around 5
  • it is easy to get sick or at least feel sick with the slightest chill
  • snow can be a major inconvenience or worse if it snows where you live
  • winter weather can start in fall and end in spring
  • the air can feel like it's full of ice shards
  • "seasonal effective disorder" is a thing
  • cold

How a number of people think that craptastic season is the best season is alien to me.

  • Having to scrape and thaw ice off my car windows in the morning.
  • Having to drive slow to avoid sliding and crashing.
  • Not being able to walk around as well because of snow and ice.
  • Outdoor places being closed because of cold and snow.
I also hate winter, and it's the worst season.

a few more:

  • way too cold to go swimming
  • high electric bills because heater
  • trees can be empty and brown for months

I actually like winter. Snow is pretty awesome.
I think I liked winter as a little kid because of playing in the snow, Christmas, and school getting cancelled because too much snow.

Yet another thing the zoomies and now gen alpha have had stolen from them. They don't even get real snow days because online work
What a miserable batch of adults they're going to be.
Do they recognize the unbridled joy of watching the teacher push in a clunky CRT on wheels and insert a cassette when it was time to watch a movie?
Being a kid in public school these days certainly sucks.

I wonder how many people remember filmstrips.
My mom kept ours in little steel cans. Do you remember how fun it was to look at them while pointed at the sun and see an image of your younger self with blue skin?
chalk boards(with actual chalk the teacher could throw at you without being fired)
I had a biology teacher in high school who hated my guts, and if you added up all the chalk shes thrown at me with admirable accuracy, I'd have my forehead painted white like a geisha. I guess this is on-topic for the thread, because I hated her back and couldn't wait to finally never see that witch again. No one liked her and I bet she wishes she could still take a cane to children's hands.

That's not what was being referenced. Those are negatives(opposite colors).
Filmstrips were positives(normal colors), basically slides without being cut into pieces and mounted in little cardboard things.

They had a "filmstrip" projector which was just a slide projector that took up to a whole roll and you showed one image at a time. More compact to store than slides but also more prone to damage.

Those are negative rolls. Same basic medium.

But filmstrip machines were "educational" things with a series of (non-negative) stills that would play in a machine while shitty music or narration played.

I knew someone who used an overhead projector until fairly recently, a boomer who painted signs, and used the projector to project whatever he was going to fill in on the sign or wall. Now you can hook a projector directly to a computer (or a camera for capturing an image to trace).

Avid consoomers whining about housing prices. When it's clear you're not saving money whatsoever and you have a room full of shitty pop culture tat the retail value of which could have secured like half of your down payment, STFU.
Inverse point: people trying to downplay the actual insane increase of property prices over the last few years. At least where I am, property has doubled in cost over the last 10 years with no sign of slowing down. The average 3 bed property value here is at around $900k.

Didn't mean to downplay, housing prices are indeed lunacy, I guess it's really just when I see someone complaining about their situation yet not attempting to do something about it, or worse, acting against doing something about it. Consoomers and housing prices are just the freshest example.
