The cause of all these problems is overemphasis on conformity. There's too much information arriving from too many different places, and it's all issuing commands. It's made everyone paranoid. I can't help but think of this as people getting selfish and entitled, because they waited too long to get married, which is known to increase divorce risk - on the parts of both parties. I could not help but notice over time that as I and my partners aged the entitlement factor got worse and worse on the parts of the women I dated.

Women can't stand being told to work on themselves or level themselves up at all. Criticism is just 'hurt', and the implication that they're responsible for aging gracefully and staying healthy and not looking like shit or getting fat and staying educated makes them retreat to cats and alcohol.
