Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Also reading between the lines he thinks people like RGR get paid off while he gets no funding. Even if left-wing groups did fund these transit videos (which would ruin what little credibility they have), why should he expect any of the cut?
They do get paid off its just in very round about ways, they use patreon and algorithm pushes to launder money and attention with no direct connection to the people pushing the agendas.

It’s worse because the average bus has something like five passengers. It’s elsewhere in the thread but cars beat busses in passenger miles per CO2 because so many buses are basically empty.
But you don't understand, if we banned car ownership, the busses would be full up because you would have no choice but to take it!

There’s no way that bus holds 70 people except at crush capacity.
You're right, a normal city bus holds about 50-55 people at full capacity (ignoring the fact they'll overload them) and articulated buses hold 75-80.

That image also seems to be doing to opposite for cars and assuming that one car is holding a single person. Hell you can even see two people on scooters that they've counted as having one person.

They're assuming worst case for cars/scooters and assuming absolute maximum possible capacity (dangerous) for buses.

Urbanists refuse to be honest.

I'm fine with public transportation or mass commute, but this meme is disingenuous. Not everybody may want to ride with 70 random people on a pre determined path. Some places don't even HAVE public transportation.
it's also downright dishonest - if the second bus is so close behind the first one, that usually means at least one of them is not in service and is returning to the depot, i.e. it's empty

Probably not. In all likelihood they are just two different lines that overlap so people can change busses and becouse people from different areas want to go the same popular spots.

Again with these urbanists being obsessed with efficiency while completely ignoring comfort

If I'm going to commute somewhere for 2 hours 5 days a week for years I want to be comfortable

No way is being in a bus with 69 other people comfortable where you'll be standing most of the time and have no room for movement. And all it takes is one person being allergic to soap and water or deodarant to make the experience even shittier

Buses are fine when they're not overcrowded, personally I think they can be quite cozy after a day of work since you don't have to worry about being the one having to deal with traffic. But of course, you can't have that because of the muh CO2 emissions. If you're going to pollute at least have some upsides by filling the bus to the brim I guess

I would love to see actual evidence of this, large think tanks and companies paying youtubers secretly via patreon.

The thing with obfuscation is you try to keep people from doing that. You can connect the dots if you try hard enough, though. Look at Night https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_(company), who owns Hasan Piker. Who get involved with https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Chernin the head of Fox. Streamers are just live TV shows involving the same people. None of it is organic, "the algorithm" has a heavy hand on the scales in terms of who gets promoted or not.

Sure but all of that is known. Piker is paid by a company to perform on Twitch. What I thought you were describing was companies making fake micro donations to streamers to prop them up, which it doesn't sound like there is good evidence of that happening.

That is against the ToS of most of the companies, so if it does happen it happens quietly and on the down-low.

Contractors hiring contractors hiring contractors is usually how it goes, as a "promotional expense".

Something I've never seen mentioned is a redditor's preoccupation with "douchebags" (anyone that doesn't agree with them) and extreme punishment to said "douchebags". You can see them frothing at the mouth through the monitor.
Reddit is fucked because all the good insults have been declared slurs.

Douchebag will be out once they decide it’s sexist.

I want to see what that total looks like in a few weeks, when Calgary is subject to Canadian winters.

There are insane people who ride all year in the city, do not underestimate cyclist's ability to make poor choices.

That sign is at 5 St SW and 9 Ave SW. There's like a whole lane of traffic dedicated to bikes there and I want to say the bike lane was added in like 2015 or so. 1000 bikes per day during nice weather downtown really doesn't seem all that impressive to me when 5 St SW gets about 10,000 cars per day (2019 numbers).

On Google Maps it had 9 daily riders on the day the Google Car came by:

The picture was taken in June in the middle of the day, so it's the perfect weather and time for lots of bikers:

I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and say it might not be showing all the numbers due to the funky thing that happens when you take photos of some LED signs...but every single photo the car took shows 9.

Regardless even in the photo the Redditor took the lane is accommodating thousands fewer "vehicles" per day than each lane of traffic and when you consider cars carrying multiple people vs bikes carrying one? It's hard to call it a good use of road space.

how many times do you think had to wave his hand in front of the sensor to get it to read 1k? this is like taking your pedometer and shaking it vigorously to "get in your steps"

re-reviewing the google street view picture it might read 900. seeing as the 9 in that picture is in the hundreds slot. HOWEVER. i doubt it since i have seen LED displays that center single and double digits for a cleaner look.
