Did anyone else use Portal Of Evil? - The original Kiwi Farms

Any other old fags former Portal Of Evil users? PoE was pretty much the original Kiwi Farms. Pre social media in the early 00s when people just made random ass websites for fun PoE was there to share links to and discuss the most deranged ones. They even had the rule to not interact with the users of the websites being observed similar to the Kiwi Farms rule to not fuck with the tards. A lot of self made niche porn, schizoposting, fucked up fanfics, shitty art, etc. Honestly the current lolcows aren't much different than the old internet ones.

Old Man Murray to Portal of Evil to POE News. Even had an account on Bo News for a bit.

My favourite era of lolcows and an awesome time for the internet as a whole. There wasn't the same self-consciousness that there is now, people were far more "themselves" online for better and for worse.

Doesn't seem like it. A shame, I wanted to relieve my childhood of being 12 and seeing websites about furry inflation and guys sticking their dicks in jars of bugs
Internet Archive has it.

Just spending a few minutes checking it over and it's bringing back huge memories for me. Will have to go through and link to some favourite exhibits.

I remember that. Never spent any time as an active user, but I remember it. I was a little kid on Newgrounds watching Clock Crew and David Firth videos during that time period

I vaguely remember POE News having some good stuff on it. Seemed much more chill then our Thunderdome, probably because it wasn't a /pol/ refuge.

Looks like they didn't capture the forum posts so functionally useless :(

The F+ podcasters are all old POE users who talk about it occasionally. That's pretty much all they do now: read websites and make fun of them. You might want to check out their early episodes for nostalgia purposes. New episodes are much more pozzed, but they used to be pretty funny.

Browsing through earlier and some are there, most are not. It's really hit and miss. A real shame. I miss the old place.

POE News was pretty chill until the drama at the end, the details of which I can scarcely remember.

Bo News was alright but that was when a bunch of regulars started handwringing about calling each other faggots back in the day and they started policing no-no words. It turned into a private hugbox not long after that.

I still use the term "fagdance" to describe the stages of reaction to internet criticism.

TOTSE had some good content for a while there. I think they even caught Kelly Osborne clearly viewing it way back in he day. How to cook meth, the "Anarchist cookbook" early but outdated hacking techniques and ways to get around the system like hacking payphones for free calls etc.

The guy running Enyclopedia Dramatica turned into a lolcow himself, content was way better back in the day. IIRC he became a drug addict and stalked some girl he fell for leaving voice messages alternating between "I love you, why can't you just see that, love me back"? next voicemail was "bad things are going to happen to you and your family if we don't get back together"

Portal of Evil truly was the web 1.0 equivalent of Kiwifarms.

Back then, the web was smaller but bigger at the same time. A lot of the shit people are inured to these days, like hentai and furry and fan culture in general, had just been exposed to the world for the first time, so the novelty and shock factor was huge. Because of that, taking part in it was already like stepping into a whole new world, to say nothing of making fun of it. That's what made places like PoE, Something Awful, and 4chan so goddamn magical back in the day. You weren't just stepping into a whole new world, you were doing it as a cynic.

Unfortunately, Portal of Evil gradually ran out of material when all the weirdos and freaks moved to social media and video sites instead of opening their own website. The original PoE eventually turned into a mausoleum of web 1.0 before vanishing. Fading away was a more dignified death than PoE News, which just ended up aggressively rotting away in the same way Something Awful did during the Obama-era leftward shift. Looking back at it, I can't help but feel like some of these web 1.0 icons deserved a better end than they got.

Still, while it lasted, Portal of Evil and web 1.0 were a fun ride. Greatly do I miss it, now that it is gone.

Looks like even poetv, com is gone now.
That's a legitimate crying shame. Poetv.com was probably the best thing to come out of the whole PoE network. It had an eccentric crowd regularly contributing to it, which lead to a constant stream of eclectic content. I found some fascinating stuff thanks to that site.
Fatchicksinpartyhats.com seems to be down too.
I'll go to my grave believing that Miguel was a real person and not just a goofy-ass persona Seanbaby made up.

The TOTSE forums were great fun. Truly the golden age of the internet ended with TOTSE in 2009, though Portal of Evil lingered on until 2011. I was never active on the PoE forums although I did spend many hours browsing through its link directory with horrified fascination.

I was thinking about some of the good old Cows In Thread they had on PoE. Like Kiwi Farms there was a no touching rule but because people were running their own personal web sites back then they would sometimes check the logs and find us from the referral URLs, read what was being written about them, get MATI and join in the conversation.

Alithea was a non-entity young lolbertarian with an inflated sense of self-importance, a plan to conquer the world and a blind date that went really badly. Thanks to him I still sometimes catch my glance in the mirror, flick my hair and think "so elven".

Jonah Falcon lived large as a fat failed actor with a huge cock and an inflated sense of self-importance. Spent several pages arguing he wasn't gay before admitting $1500 was still $1500.

Hybrid-RPG persisted somehow as an absolute schizophrenic with an inflated sense of self-importance, convinced he'd invented an RPG system so good God Himself ripped it off and went back in time to use it to create the real Universe. Conversing with him was like bashing your head against a wall made of poorly understood algebra.

Any others?

Any others?
Minerva Nightshade (I think was her name?): Secret of NIMH rat pee fetish porn lady. Checked her referrer logs to her site one day and came and fagdanced all over POE. Had some amazingly deranged email exchanges with Chet where she dubbed him the Deke Lord Chet Poe. The forum somehow brought her and her art to the attention of Secret of NIMH animator Don Bluth who was truly disgusted. A classic.

Onideus Mad Hatter/Matthew Moulton: Legendary Usenet retard whose Care Bear diaper porn fetish site cam to the attention of the forum. He spent years "trolling" the site by showing up and shitting his pants all over and threatening to hack the place with his elite skills. Insisted he was the greatest internet troll of all time. Inventor of the most advanced website design technique - interpixel cascade fusion. Worked at Dairy Queen and claimed to own a $4000 hat. *COCK SLAP*

Those are two off the top of my head.

I remember having arguments with proto SJWs on that site, thars where I was first exposed to mindless progressive stack nonsense. They were the minority then, just seemed silly (although people smart enough to know better would defend them)

It also introduced me to Pale Fire, the best book ever written.
