I'd love to say that child protection agencies always get it right and that their workers are always objective and unbiased, but it's not the reality. They err frequently in both directions and sometimes the outcomes are catastrophic. For that reason, here you will now also have a guardian ad litem and an independent children's lawyer involved in cases where children are removed from the home.

One of the agencies working in child protection here had to move their offices from the poorer suburbs to the more affluent areas about 20 years ago because there were so many cases of neglect happening in those areas.

I also don't recall seeing any requirement that Kayla and Nick attend parenting classes in the documents I read, and it's extremely likely that would have been required of a poor family.

It would be interesting to know what CHIPS thinks April's relationship to the family is now, given that she's claiming she undertook voluntary testing in order to be around the kids.
