Tumblr didn't act like him cybering a 16yo is no big deal though, in fact most of Tumblr is tearing him apart.
In the past I couldn't imagine people on /co/ going "oh my god that's awful we support u" to Carefully but I do think there would have at least been more of a consensus of "lol at this weird fuck". As of late though (I'd say post Gamergate, maybe post Moot leaving & crying to Rolling Stone about evil bigots on 4chan) a lot of people try to look like "cool, sane centrists" over political or semi-political stuff. Look at the guy who said the Shmorky stuff was just an "outrage culture witch hunt" and exactly like Orson Scott Card getting attacked for not liking gay marriage but aimed at the "other side".
People like that don't see a creep doing creepy things, they see a SJW getting called out and thus need to show they're cool and smart and blahblah both sides.

so i woke up today to all you folks still rallying and lending support (like decent human beings), but then i log into HellSite™ to see a message i got some asshat trying to "inform me" about how someone i reblogged commentary from (catbountry) is an "abuser" herself. there was a lot of feather-ruffling in an attempt to be threatening, but it ultimately amounted to misplaced anger towards catbountry because she doesn't support self-diagnosis, transtrenders, neo-sexuals and otherkin, and tells teenagers that they're being fuckin' dumb for that reason. no tangible evidence of real abuse, mind you, just a bunch of hurt feelings from dysfunctional teenagers with a warped sense of cognitive dissonance.
once again, stellar prioritizing, tumblr. there's a pedophile on the loose, but this person was mean to you!

Okay so I don't usually do shit like this but I figured, hey, since it's Shmorky and all and he was a very small part of my early internet years, I'll put my thoughts out about this since whyYYYyy the heck not.
I generally don't judge people based on rumors or small-time dirt exposures, and for awhile Shmorky was no different. People bringing up commissions he did over a decade ago as 'proof' that he wanted to fuck kids in diapers (though this turned out to be true, awhoops), people mocking him having a bad relationship (no one has ever went through anything like that before, whaaaat an idiot!!) and even the chatlog leaks aren't that fucking bad. Oh no, he's a retard with a light fetish for adult babies and scat WUH WUH WUH STAAAAAAWP DA PRESSES.
The most alarming thing he did was scat roleplay with a person who was 16 at the time. What a fucking regular Adolf Hitler.
Yeah, he's sort of annoying and ultimately his real character (behind the veil of internet anonymity) turned out to be a bit of a complete cornfuck, and his Twitter feed has grown increasingly groan-inducing, but I'm not going to say he's the worst person ever or that the chatlog leaks were a bombshell that's ruined him as a human being. He's an idiot who pushed a persona because he's a tryhard who wanted to be ~~unique & cutie~~ and he was always a bit of a 'so random' tryhard even in his early days (his early animations being slightly unfunny versions of stuff Neil Ciciccicicicrega was doing at the time).
He was a product of Something Awful. Both in creating it and in being shaped by it. He's a lonely, fetish-confused shut-in who has probably never had a healthy outlet for exploring who he is in his entire life. When a somewhat underaged (or not even underaged, going by various age of consent laws) girl gave him a target for living out repressed fetishes, he took it. Woopity fucking doo, he did what every man probably would have done. He's a non-issue.
My final verdict is that he's a dumbass, but a fairly pointless one and pretty harmless. Making sexual advances, even light scat roleplay, towards someone young (especially since he was abusing her obsession with him, since he was a mid-tier internet personality and successful artist) isn't cool, and I'm not justifying that- merely pointing out that it really isn't that big of a fucking dramabomb.
Let me know when he actually fucks a 14 year old or something and then we'll talk.

The only reason why this isn't really blowing up enough on Tumblr is because Shmorky is '''trans'''. They bend over backwards for trans people even if they're shitty, pooping pedophiles like Shmorky.

The other issue is not that he was dating a 16 year old. 16 year olds have some level of sexual agency. They can make some decisions for themselves. Disgusting fetishes aside, when you seek out someone more than 10 years younger than you like that, it's usually because you're emotionally crippled and can only relate to people who haven't had much life experiences, or you're using assets you have to use them. I don't think anyone wants him to die or go to prison 5ever but he's definitely not someone I'd want to associate with and I'd not be shocked if many of his supporters feel the same way.

these people are so blind to how much they hate someone/something (usually just because some other idiot was articulate enough to use big confusing words telling them why they should) that when something actually, seriously detrimental is happening, all they can focus on is "well this person hurt my feelings" because they won't call you xe/xem/xer, but then they otherwise do meaningless garbage in their own corner. it shouldn't amaze me as much as it does, but it does. :T
