Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

Oh no, the fag's fancy smart lightswitches that he bitched about to the point of sending his autist loyalists after the company aren't working, time to switch them out with other smart switches instead of just buying normal lightswitches.
I almost feel bad for her. Yer husband having something like a project car rotting in the garage is one thing, but when he turns yer home into a project house, and then doesn't even bother doing it right, that's gotta suck. The only reason its "almost feel bad" is she can wipe away the inconvenience tears with the money those videos print when wannabe tech 'enthusiasts' flock to see it.

I still hold that shit like smart switches are a waste of time, money and effort, just go turn off the light like a goddamned normal person. Its not hard to remember to turn a light off when you leave a room and don't intend to come back. And if that is somehow just too much for you to handle, the late night "check all the rooms in the house" patrol to turn out lights is probably a good thing, as your dumb ass probably forgot other important shit too, the lights are just a bonus.

Frankly, most smart home/home automation stuff is bullshit. The only worthwhile ones I've seen are heating related, turning off/on the HVAC remotely. And even those immediately got poisoned by always online hardware where the company goes out of business, or literal government hands on your thermostat controlling what you can set in your own damned house.

Luke has got to be sweating right now: there's no way Floatplane has ever been profitable - it has barely any users and must cost a fortune to run.
I'm waiting for the video where Linus looks somberly into the camera, let's out a sigh, and says, "Guys, it's been rough. I have decided that we need back to our roots. Like how I first started my YouTube channel."

He has wasted so much money. The LTT Labs has to be a money sinkhole.

EDIT:
I must be out of the loop. Gary left LTT Labs? LOL. Get rekt, Linus.

Sorry for the gay Reddit link.

I wonder if we'll see a whole bunch of ex-LTT people starting their channels in the same way a whole bunch of ex-Donut Media guys started their own YouTube channels when Donut shat the bed earlier this year.

Given that Donut is the LTT of CarTube, it could hold some clues as to the future of some ex-LTT "talent".

understatement of the century. when he "reviewed" a small mitsubishi 3 cylinder commuter car with a starting price around $10K new, he was complaining about shit like seat mounting studs (where the seat rail is bolted to the floor) were sticking out. in that 5 seconds I never wanted to muslim-style building-toss someone more in my entire life.

seeing this again i want to ram my fist into his dumb jewish goblin face. imagine being a "professional" car """"reviewer"""" and not recognizing a FUCKING FLOOR VENT.

hey Demuro, sure the car isn't that capable, and sure its put together cheaply, but you know what it can really excel at? a good old fashion goblin-faced car "reviewer" FAG DRAG
If you ever want a good laugh go over to cars and bids and look at some of the listings that never sold after the auction ended. The site is a dumpster fire compared to bring a trailer and the equivalents. Also CCF has some kino content if you are into cars.

Makes me wonder if Edzel left on his own or something else, because aside from being the longest member on staff, he was also apparently the Head of Editing. Who's cracking the whip now? Also, calling it, he's not just gonna downsize; if he was honest in a previous video, he still has the house they used before and is renting it out to someone else. They're not just downsizing, they're moving back into that house, and selling the project house... then Yvonne is gonna divorce rape him.

Or if you want to be fancy; the kind of lightswitch with the knob so you can dim them to where you want. I haven't looked, but with the way tech's going; I wouldn't be surprised if you could have a few different settings for each of changing things. I get it, where I'd like lights to have a lower setting, or sometimes I don't want to get up; but the one of those I do have is the garage; where my laundry machine is, most likely I'm in and out in 10 minutes and don't mind just walking out and letting the light turn itself off.

Or your house gets hacked because a fishtank thermometer had wi-fi.

Doug won’t give a shit. He’ll have pumped the stock and cashed out when VC dumped money in.

Company restructuring, employees being let go, of course you make another gay home mcmansion video:

Good god. I never fully understood the hate boner that people had for LTT and specifically for his house which frequently gets mentioned, but this video is so frustrating to watch and eye opening for me.

I suppose it is "interesting" for people who are looking into home automation and fringe technologies in that arena, but the whole house setup is totally shit and its frustrating to watch this. Whatever credibility LTT had as a "nerd/geek" has totally gone out the fucking window and he's doing nothing more than buying off the shelf chinesium and adding to the world's pile of ewaste.

It's such a massively over the top setup for a fucking house, and you would think if you were spending that amount of money you'd at least get an expert to come in and do a consultation before buying all of that shit but of course the comments are filled with input from electricians who say that his choices are retarded.

The house looks completely devoid of personality and is so fucking overkill. I guess the only redemeeding value this has is to prove that smarthome stuff is still dogshit and people should totally avoid it.

I really hate that nerd/geek stuff and gayming got commercialized - I hope Linus' paycheck was worth it.

Doug won’t give a shit. He’ll have pumped the stock and cashed out when VC dumped money in.
Really sad to see this, I lad hiked Doubt up until now.

All his home automation videos probably turn more people off than actually help. Every video he's using some new hub or standard that is supposedly better than the last. I'm sure some new hub maker will sponsor him and he will make the same video a 10th time.

"I just don't want the lights to turn off while i'm still in the room!", increase the on timer? How long do you sit motionless in a room? Or you know, just use this new invention called a switch when you enter and leave the room. It can't be about power saving when he is heating a pool year round and running a server rack 24/7.

It doesn't look like this has been discussed here yet but following up on the removal of the staffing section of the LTT website, LTT has had significant layoffs today of a few important staff members. Three of their least performant channels are going on an indefinite hiatus to rework their approaches to content, it was posted about on their respective community feeds; Mac Address, GameLinked and TechQuickie. Here's the message that was posted to each:

Accompanying these messages, multiple team members have been confirmed to have been laid off. Jonathan Horst changed LTT on his LinkedIn to a job with an end date, he also removed "Writer:LTT" from his Twitter account bio.

Jon Martin as well, same thing. Removed from bio and updated on LinkedIn.

I'm sure there's more layoffs but it's harder to track down now given that there's no visible staff page; you have to consciously think about what LTT members to look for and dox their LinkedIn/Twitter basically. This also comes after Linus discussed having a really difficult "all hands on deck" meeting where he had to talk financials with the team and the longevity of the company. I know his new lap pet, Elijah, has been talking about how hard everything has been at work recently on his Twitter and in his streams as well.

I think this is a massive L and a huge surprise given that Jonathan Horst has proven to be an extremely competent video writer, producer and host. I'm not sure why Linus would expel talent like him from the company instead of moving him elsewhere when he kept the tumor that was Anthony Young on for half a decade. He was also popular with a lot of viewers. I don't remember much about Martin, however.
Linus is too busy with profitable things like creating empty websites for his empty warehouse that does no testing, or growing his vibrant badminton side hustle.

Additionally, for me at least, in some videos, he has an overall sense of "the contractors are fucking everything up." Then in his own videos, he's just doing shit over and over and over, wasting time and money. I've been trying to plan some renovations for a while, and every time this jacknape does a house video, I just find myself asking how many thousands of dollars he's blowing on dumb useless shit. Most people don't get a do-over or have enough scratch laying around to just do something new over and over; and it's all because he has some retarded consoomer brain that demands some jank ass setup that meets his exact yet retarded needs. If there was justice in the world, the contractors would've left the house incomplete.

I'm guessing that he chose the cheapest contractors or at least the most inexperienced contractors. From what I have heard you should always go with contractors who are older (besides reviews) because they have way more experience than young guns and generally know how to get shit done right the first time.

But his setup has lots of retarded shit anyway and is super overkill - basically anyone else getting that kind of setup would have the money to have someone else set it all up and install it for them but he seems to think he can just go gung ho and try and install this shit himself with some side characters from his show. Sure the results make for good viewing when its a NAS or whatever and maybe even in this case, but if he wanted that actual setup he should've just hired someone to set it all up and had a contract that included provisions that would ensure the entire thing fucking works x months after it had been delivered.

At this point I have to think whoever is scheduling these videos is doing so to point out Linus' disconnect. It's such vanity to show off his gay Porsche, that faggot Riley is still around doing unfunny skits, and Linus has his cronies build one of those drive-in light bars people use for wrapping and car detailing for his garage.

One thing that I forgot to mention on the WAN Show, he mentions that Jack Doughtery crashing his McLaren but doesn't mention Markass Brown speeding in a school zone, which the comments ripped him on. People are still knocking him over it in the comments, this one was a solid burn:

Is he even going with contractors? I just assumed his employees were doing all the work.
I can't point to specific videos; but there are times in certain videos where he complains about them. I want to say one of the pool related videos and one about painting; again, can't point to a specific, but it's in my head.

Unless you personally find it fun to tinker with, there is zero reason to buy into the "everything is connected" aspect of smart-home marketing.

I find that the trend is for the individual products to be great, but contain a huge number of features that are niche beyond belief, because both the designers and the target demographic are retards and think people want their light switches to have cutting-edge motion tracking, blinds to contain a lumen counter to determine exactly how wide to open in the morning, or a vacuum to hunt down and photograph your pets for you throughout the day.

Those niche features drive the price up, and then these products become must-include features of every mid to high-end house to enable the contractor to inflate their fee. Sale volumes rise, perpetuating the idea there is market demand for this utter nonsense, and the cycle continues.

Then comes the aspect of network connectivity. Because WiFi can't support the huge number of potential devices in a concentrated area, there are multiple competing RF standards that all require their own special network radios. Thread/Matter is the future, ZigBee/XBee/Z-Wave are dying and will obsolete most existing smart-home tech as support is dropped. Good luck trying to diagnose issues with these random mesh networks that rely on bridging between cheap consumer products in a heavily obstructed environment.

And finally, the integration piece. Choose one of the following:
  • Use each companies proprietary hub/app, and accept that you'll never realistically use any of the smart features because nothing works together
  • Use one of the Chinese integrated hubs (like the one Linus was paid to shill in his video, "Homey"), and accept they will disappear in ~2 years and never support the majority of products to begin with
  • Use HomeAssistant and accept your app/dashboards will look like shit and rely on /g/ autists to keep everything working
The small number of real use cases that would drive someone to spend $20-$50 more on a particular product, fall apart when the workflow of using them becomes so unwieldy and the cost of fully outfitting your house is measured in the thousands of dollars.

I can't get my pixel to respond to "hey google" half of the time, why would I want to deal with that when it comes to every electric based system in my house. I have a single kasa smart strip hooked to my PC because it monitors power, I don't think I've ever used any of the "smart" features.

I hate IOT and the shit you have to to do segregate your networks is just too much work for me.

All I can say is that I’m happy Jonathan Horst is finally free.

He has tremendous talent, and it was clear from the start that LMG was squandering it. Out of all the channels LMG ran, Mac Address was the only watchable one. The reviews were always interesting, and the videos were well-produced, and miles above the ugly slop LTT churns out.

It's weird that he even agreed to work for Linus in the first place. There didn’t seem to be any real benefit. Apple notoriously despises Linus and refuses to send him early review samples. LMAO.

Also, Horst was running the Mac Address channel entirely on his own. He could easily start his own channel if he wanted to. When he got into a car accident a short while ago and was recovering for a month, the channel completely stopped uploading. I am happy that he at least got a month+ worth of PTO before being laid off. If I recall correctly, the severance package for being laid off there was pretty decent.
