Sweet Baby Inc. and the Steam Curator Group Conspiracy - The company that is responsible for the diarrheic video game writing.

I'd say In hindsight Gamergate can be best described as a torpedo movement, it's detonation was inevitable, but it did basically irreparably cripple """journalistic integrity""" in the process.
There was no journalistic integrity to cripple. It never existed. The uselessness of GJ just became more obvious than it already was.

Ultimately culture wars about vidya are pointless. They don't really matter. Yeah they're annoying and stupid and if you like vidya this nonsense messes it up and ruins franchises, but there's way more important stuff to worry about.

For instance, the way "real" journalists lie us into ACTUAL wars instead of retarded nerd wars about games.

And even as games go, I have a back catalog of shit I've never even played enough to last for years even if every single one of these shit factories went out of business tomorrow.

You grossly underestimate the importance of culture in the realm of politics. Even more so as the masses get progressively dumber.
Culture allows you to effectively hack the brains of the normal fag to reprogram them and games are currently the most potent medium for propaganda.

Yeah, but gaming journalists aren't "real" journalists, and the shenanigans that GG exposed about them was even more proof of that. GamerGate was good for something, but at the end of the day they were still unorganized retards. Better than the gaming journos, who are all failed journalists forever stuck talking about things they hate, to people that hate them, because they're not good enough to get a job at NYT or WaPo like they want.

Anyone who takes Disco "Praise Karl Marx!" Elysium seriously never had an opinion worth listening to or any solid political beliefs.

Notice I didn't mention who's integrity it was. Mainstream media were also indirectly affected by the fallout around 2016, in part exactly because some people orbiting/involved with GG were starting to/already running political and "anti-SJW" content nonstop around when Trump became president for the first time. And after the 'safest' 2020 election names like the CNN, MSNBC, WP were basically dead in the eyes of the growing, disaffected MAGA movement (and the point where GG truly dies in my view, because all public-facing politics has been revealed to be a farce to begin with).
At this point in current year their job is essentially nothing more than maintaining the façade of civilization until the last boomer dies, and consent manufacture where possible (like Ukraine or Covid for example).

I've been seeing the term "toxic positivity" come up a lot recently when SBI or DEI games are mentioned, and I don't understand what it means in that context. Can someone explain what they're talking about?
Yep. Toxic positivity is an environment where no one is allowed to critique anyone and everything someone does must be considered brave and stunning or you will be ostracized and/or terminated. It's an environment where *zero* negativity, constructive or otherwise, is permitted.
I've also seen it used for when management just ignored any criticism with a dismissive "oh, you're talented, you'll make it work!" and as a result, shit never gets fixed. IIRC, that's how insiders elaborated on the Toxic Positivity at the Concord Studio.

My only real fear (fear is a bit strong...concern?) in this regard is that one day my hardware is going to fail and I won't be able to play my massive physical collection of old good games any more. I already have a gigantic PS3 library that's basically useless because I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than fire up the PS3 again.

I'm hoping third-party hardware will eventually become a viable alternative, but even in the worst case scenario where all my physical games become paperweights I'll just read more books; maybe finally take up carpentry like I've always wanted.

Agreed. The entire industry could collapse overnight, and I'd still be pretty okay with it. I have over 170 games in my Steam library and I've only played through a quarter of it. Got plenty of content to go through on GOG and my Epic libraries as well. That's not counting all the emulated Sega Genesis titles I'm still playing to this day. I have a lifetime or two worth of game content to go through, and the only real "modern" titles I have are fighting games. I haven't paid full price for a game title in years.

I'm still playing games I played as a kid in the 90s and early 2000s. The modern gaming industry can go kick rocks.

I remember when I was looking into what to do about being able to play my old Dreamcast games in a modern age, considering eventually my Dreamcast GD-ROM drive will die. I saw all these people recommending:

"Ok, take your Dreamcast apart. Ok, now take out the disk drive and put in this SD Card reader (hopefully it's in stock at one of these obscure sites). Oh, it's probably a good idea to replace the power supply too. Then you'll need to cut some holes in your Dreamcast shell. You want to play your old game? You'll need a second Dreamcast and this attachment to rip the roms to an SD card..."

After that I thought, "Why don't I just emulate it, and download the roms from illegal rom sites?"

Oh wait, that would be morally wrong. I better not do that.

@Mr Processor I ran into a similar issue when I was trying to get around the bullshit PS Vita memory card issue. I found a bunch of alternatives on Amazon but they all required jailbreaking the Vita and loading custom firmware so I just gave up. This was all so I could play Danganronpa 3 with Japanese VAs, so maybe I got what I deserved.

Maybe instead of carpentry I should buy a bunch of old consoles and a soldering iron and try my hand at learning to mod.

I do have a lot of fun building electronics. If you like carpentry and electronics I see a lot of videos where people build their electronics into custom wooden cases and the like.

Yes, I ran into that same Vita problem. I even bought the SD Card kit for it, but I never got it to work. At the time, the jailbreak software had a bunch of quirks and you had to not have the latest Vita updates, so I figured I'd wait. I have no idea where that kit got to at this point.

No I don't, I just entirely correctly put vidya at the very bottom of the importance, where it belongs.
It is the most profitable entertainment industry. Money talks and that is the reason it is rising fast in importance. It is true that the powers that be have not fully caught onto this but they are getting there if the excessive targeting for censoring is anything to go by.

I could do without PSA's about "the current thing" while virusbombing Darlocs in Master of Orion.

Yeah but what's generating most of that profit? The same cancer that's turning the hobby into a shithole. If you took all the bugmen gambling and consoomer slop out of the equation I wonder where the industry would rank then.
True but it matters not. Money flows and people want in. They are not smart enough to learn where and how. They only see that it does and want to control it for various reasons. Everything else is details to them which is why they fail. It sucks but it is true regardless. I do think the industry would be less profitable without those two demographics but every industry has been hit by one thing or the other. Films and shows were crushed by the Pandemic and the strikes for one. At least games need little more than a PC to be made barring some exceptions for voice acting and motion capture (and the latter is not all that used). Games attracted a lot of attention in the Pandemic for that reason.

We all could do without those in any game. Mocking their PSAs seems to work in making them regret putting them on our games.

Anyone who says shit like this never actually played the game and/or is incapable of critical thought and instead prefers media to validate their preconceived notions and listening to neckbearded grifters spoon-feeding them their opinions. In other words you're a witless moron easily swayed by others.

All I'm gonna say is that I have never met a fan of that game worth listening to, and you're not changing that.

PS3 is in less of a danger since the emulator for it runs fine. Xbox 360 emulation is a much bigger problem, making preservation for that console a bigger issue, especially with the online store shutting down not too long ago. Some of these games were never re-released anywhere else and I don't know if there is a way to emulate them right now.
Hardware will always die, at that point you will either have to do your best to fix it or seek emulation. Discs also have a lifespan, so they won't last forever. Considering that we still have people playing Atari and Nintendo games from over 30 years ago, I would say you're fine if you treat your stuff right. I'm more-so bummed about PC going full digital, I have been digging out old discs and playing some of the games recently and I just realized that CD drives aren't the standard on PCs anymore. Hell, I remembered that even I have a portable CD drive that's connected via USB on my computer, not like it matters much since you don't see any games on PC releasing on disc anymore. Real shame, having a shelf stacked with games is a completely different feeling than having a box full of hard drives somewhere in your closet, and I think future generations of PC gamers just won't appreciate that feeling or even know what that's like.

Bit off topic, but I find it interesting the range of opinions on that game. There's a large contingent of the fanbase that see it as a celebration of communism, but then others say that it pisses in the eyes of communists, capitalists, and everybody else.

And yet, not a single person defends the gameplay.

It's a pretentious game for pseudo-intellectuals, nothing more. I have also never seen anyone talk about the gameplay, which is telling.
