Man the US rehab system is pretty shit. 30 days is nothing to build lifelong new habits, your brain will still be fried. Sure, there’s NA and similar groups to help you when you’re out, but with the severity of his addictions it won’t be enough.

A year is not uncommon in my country for hardcore addicts. 30 days won’t even let you get to know your counselor properly, let alone come up with a proper plan on how to change your life. That part doesn’t even really start until after about 3 months here, when your brain is somewhat back to normal.
i have never seen ANYONE come out clean on a 30 day stint. it should honestly be 6 months minimum

The Salvation Army has a really hardcore rehab like that, which is also no-charge. People often stay there a year or even longer. Six months is pretty typical.

But yeah, by and large, rehabs are either absolute shit, or Hollywood celebrity priced.

I hope Austin genuinely finds some kind of help, even if only for his family's sake and to give them some kind of peace. Even for a moment. Any hope of Austin being a normal, functiong member of society went out the window ages ago, and their solitary goal is just to keep him alive and safe as long as possible. They know if they were to hold any bottom lines with him or toss him out on his ass, they'd be burying him much sooner.

Pure speculation, but I've wondered for a while if Austin has a TBI. I'm curious if he's been to a neurologist or had an MRI to check for lesions or any sign of trauma. I would like to hope if they're medicating him and treating his addiction/tending to his mental health needs, that they're also addressing the possibility of the dude just straight up having brain damage.

I think about Justin telling the story about Austin talking about getting hit in the head with the rock and how he still feels pain there. He could be bullshitting, but it would make so much sense. His parents are patient and supportive because it's either that or throw their mentally retarded son on the street.

He's talked about getting hit in the head on stream, but iirc the details of the story change. I wouldn't be surprised if he got hit in the head and exagerates it for sympathy given his suicide baiting and other child like attempts at manipulation. He may be retarded, but he has the low cunning of an addict.

Getting insurance or the government to pay for a 6 month stay isn't gonna happen. I'm assuming he went to drug rehab classes while in jail and probably didn't have access to drugs.
im not saying its gonna happen, but you should look into those churn and burn rehab centers that the government is currently paying for if you really give a shit. i guarantee there's many people who have cycled through more than 6 times separately. not to mention the cost of arresting them and all that shit.

or maybe im retarded and we should just execute all junkies. honestly 50/50 split

I worked adjacently to the rehab business. It was common to talk to people who have been to state/fed funded detoxes/rehabs 10, 20, 50 times. It largely depends on the State.

So what are the betting odds on him not getting kicked out of this new rehab?
I think less than last time, partly because he's had the shock of actually being behind bars again for a fairly long time, and partly because they keep you on a much tighter leash in a real rehab.

If it is only a 28 day rehab then his fate is sealed, no one who is a real addict can "change" in a mere 28 days, it just isn't enough time to deconstruct their life and reconstruct it. I'd wager he is likely to complete the rehab, but it will be weeks thereafter we can measure a full relapse and more legal problems in the next 1-3 months.

I'd be willing to give him a slight chance of improvement if Bossmom and Ratdad were also getting counselling on how to deal with an addict, since they're ultimately what enable his current lifestyle to continue, but I doubt that's happening. As soon as he's out, mom will continue driving him to Derrick's and dad will shut the fuck up and take his beatings if he knows what's good for him. Damn that broken family nice
