You're absolutely correct.

Corissa is cluster B, probably a narcissist. Narcs always have a weak partner they can dominate. Narcs also always have a victim they can humiliate under the guise of love. Because they have no children, Juliana is both the weak partner and the scapegoat.

Juliana has eaten herself into a position where she couldn't leave if she wanted to. She can't afford her own place and she likely needs care because she's so fat. She doesn't want to anyway because narcs are sly enough to get away with their abuse for a very long time.

Corissa is down right evil. Juliana is just retarded.

I don’t think it’s that deep, and I don’t think Corissa has any issue putting her needs and wants into words with J. The meaner the better, I assume.
The books are part of her desire to look cool and like an ally to the right people. We didn’t just happen to organically see those books in the background like the picture with 6 different fast food brands scattered about the space. She posted them staged on purpose so we’d know she’s cool enough to be poly and woke enough to not erase black asexual transwomen albino Inuit Deaf intellectually disabled chronically disabled or whatever socially conscious boxes the author ticks.

Yeah, something with a title like “The Ethical Slut” or that black asexual one is prime material for wannabe SJW/feminist types like the two of them. Especially the sort that were on Tumblr a decade ago like they were. It’s more along the lines of those futa candles that Corissa occasionally buys to perform solidarity. I don’t doubt that Corissa likes her partner a lot less than she claims, but them blowing money on pop academia is typical for them. It’s not that deep.

Corissa and Julianna belong to the echelon of liberalism that considers delineations of human experience in such a stark, severing way to be "accommodating" and "inclusive" rather than the equivalent of having Whites Only fountains. To say that all human sexuality runs on a gamut that would fit whether you grabbed someone from Peru, Mongolia or Sweden is flattening and disrespectful to the variety of human experience; in spite of the 90s and early 2000s trying to espouse the concept that "we all bleed red" is a unifying and anti-racist stance, many will accuse you of the opposite if you try to say it nowadays. What a world!

Anyway, I would actually love to see Corissa and Julianna's full bookshelf. I imagine it would lack any great minds on there, but I did notice one of the titles was "Fat, Pretty, and Soon to Be Old" - I've never read it, but Corissa's intense anxiety around aging has always fascinated me. For a woman so terrified of being a withered old bat, she's done absolutely nothing to preserve whatever youthful vitality she once had, aside from visits to the dermatologist to have growths blasted off.

It makes sense that she used to be such a skincare aficionado because that's certainly one way to try and beat back the caress of time upon one's skin, but what's more efficient, effective and better for you is eating a fucking vegetable and drinking water that doesn't have some sort of flavored crap in it. But Corissa has never been a fan of solutions that require the grave and painful realization that one must change - often in very difficult ways, once you're firmly set in them.
