How bad is dry socket?

I'm getting to the age where I'm probably going to start having wisdom teeth eventually and I've heard nightmare stories about everything about it. It sounds really damn frightening. If you've had it, how bad is it really?

I had my wisdom teeth pulled 2 years ago and thankfully I never had a dry socket, just irrigate them with salt water every time you eat and you will be fine. All I know about dry sockets from witnesses is that for many it's the worst pain they ever felt in their life. A throbbing pain that radiates to the neck and head. Gives a slight fever and bad breath. Then again, a complication with extraction may also cause it too.

Dry socket is very uncommon (if I recall correctly my oral surgeon said it was like 3% chance) unless you're smoking while its healing or you ignore the followup instructions. So unless you're sucking on straws or sucking dick harder than a vacuum and are ignoring the precautions they give you you shouldn't have a problem.

If you do get dry socket they can put medicine in the socket and give you painkillers

SWIM was way too autistic about MOUTH TASTE and TEXTURE and managed to irrigate out the blood clot with the provided oral syringe, whoops.

Dry socket does suck but not badly enough that you're going to start a blog about your healing journey. Like @SandyCat says, it can be easily avoided by not being a dumbass. Don't smoke, no straws, do not pressure spray the area of your jaw that is trying to heal.

Do you even need an extraction? I see so many people who get them removed just because. I never did because there was no need, and I am doing perfectly fine.

Eat those Carolina reaper peppers what's the worst that could happen
There's actually some debate on whether spicy food causes that much of a problem after tooth extractions. The claim that spicy food causes stomach ulcers is bullshit, so who knows? I played it safe just in case.
