How many forums do, though - then or now. As Null has said - he doesn't vet mods/admins. Most forums don't. It's unpaid work.
Nor do most forums vet their users. SA has never been a site for kids, but neither is Facebook and you'll find plenty of youngsters on both.
Lowtax's biggest failing was being oblivious and inaccessible, but interactions between users are almost impossible to control. Shitty stuff happens the minute people start communicating privately, and you can't always blame that on the site where they first encountered one another - whether that's SA or here. Predators are everywhere, unfortunately, and the internet just gives them a lot more places to find victims.
There have been multiple dramas over the years where goons have accused other goons of real life abuse (including several rapes). How is any web site supposed to handle that?
